It's almost bedtime and I just got around to updating my Fitday for today. I only got in 693 calories and 14 grams of net carbs. I'm not the least bit hungry. Should I force myself to eat something before turning in for the night, or is an occasional low day like today okay?

No carb protein shakes that contain only protein are no different than lean meat. It is just broken into amino acids.
The ingredients- whey protein, cocoa powder, and stevia.

Whey protein isn't until the dairy rung, not Induction.
Barb, under 800 calories/day is way too low but I would just go to bed and try to eat more tomorrow. Are you getting in all your veggies with that carb count? Just wondering. Anyways, if you have trouble getting enough calories, maybe try some denser foods or adding a little more fat (olive oil or butter, etc.). Fat makes calorie counts jump up quickly.
FWIW, my calorie counts are sometimes below 1000...just turns out that way depending upon what I ate that day. But when I average it out for the week it comes out OK.

I think you do not understand whey protein. Whey protein is a protein derived from milk but has nothing else to do with it. It is only amino acids aka protein aka just like any lean meat. It has nothing to do with the milk rung which is there because of the maltose in milk. It is very important to understand why certain things are on certain rungs especially as new foods come on the market. There are also egg protein shakes which have the same ingredient just the protein coming from egg.
You could just eat a few eggs or chicken but I like having the easier to digest protein in the evening.

Remember that Atkins is not a high-protein way of eatingSo don't overdo the protein!Originally posted by in chapter 11 of DANDR
Finally, make sure you are not consuming excess quantities of protein. When eaten to excess, protein converts to glucose.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Well there is definately something to be said for eating. With eating so little yesterday, and only taking in 50% of the daily sodium RDA and getting my 100oz of water (so it shoudn't be water retention), the darn scale moved UP yesterday. Be it just a little, its still the wrong direction. I think I'm going to have a nice fat filled day if I can just find my appetite.1st Goal ~ 199 Onderland -Met 3/29/10

When you cook add butter or olive oil - you can "fry" chicken in olive oil for a healthy and tasty meat dish. Dunk meat in mayo when you eat it (chicken dipped in mayo for lunch is delicious!!). Hidden Valley Ranch dressing has 2 carbs per serving and adds fat again (yes there is a small amount of sugar in it but many people I've talked to have no problem because there are so many ingredients before "sugar").
It might be helpful to plan out your meals for a couple days ahead to make sure you get everything in and don't fall short on eating. In place of iceberg lettuce try a "lettuce" with more nutrients - you 1 cup of "other veggies" for the day - make sure it's something with more carbs.
Once you get the hang of things you'll do fine!! Good luck.Carole_____________________May Water 130oz daily

Re: Should I force myself to eat before going to bed?
personally- I don't think having an off day every once in a while will set you back. I have had the no desire to eat feeling before- and it goes against everything ....I mean, we are trying to teach our bodies to eat when we are hungry but then when we are on induction occasionally there is loss of appetite and we are telling ourselves to eat anyway?? it is a catch 22.
With regards to the whey--here is my take and I understand fully what whey is and where it comes from.....In my opinion it is processed food. stay away from it. There are protein shakes that can be made from eggbeaters, cream cheese, cream, ice cubes, stevia and cocoa powder - make up your own version.[url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/weight-loss/wjuHGvk/]

Eggbeaters INGREDIENTS:Originally posted by pipee_pl View PostWith regards to the whey--here is my take and I understand fully what whey is and where it comes from.....In my opinion it is processed food. stay away from it. Egg whites (99%), less than 1%: Natural flavor, color (includes beta carotene), spices, salt, onion powder, vegetable gums (xanthan gum, guar gum).
Philadelphia Cream Cheese Ingredients: PASTEURIZED NONFAT MILK AND MILKFAT, CHEESE CULTURE, WHEY PROTEIN CONCENTRATE, SALT, STABILIZERS (XANTHAN AND/OR CAROB BEAN AND/OR GUAR GUMS). CONTAINS MILK.
As you can see, these are also processed foods.
Egg whites and something like homemade paneer would be more natural choices. I think we all try to do the best we can with ingredients that are available or based upon our own personal choices. And yes, we can agree to disagree.
p.s. Sorry for the thread hijack.

Re: Should I force myself to eat before going to bed?
Yep. That is my take too.
To make it a little more interesting. Vitamins are heavily processed and the book does tell us to take them. Protein shakes are no different.
Once you understand the reasons why certain things are held for later levels, you begin to have a true understanding of the program and can make better decisions on what to eat.
We see the same debate with caffeine vs. no caffeine. The books clearly says not to have it and yet many of those who say "We go by the book here" justify their reasons for using it. The reason cited is because they looked at their loss and whether it affects it or not, they are ok with how things are progressing for them.
In the end, any eating plan is a personal decision. Learn not just the rules, but the reasons behind them and you will be more successful.

I understand that you are trying to prove a point, however, as I don't live in the U.S. I eat different foods than you do and in my opinion relying on foods that are convenience is how we got fat in the first place.Originally posted by mizski View PostEggbeaters INGREDIENTS:

I gave eggbeaters as an example, I have never eaten it-probably never will, I don't think I could eat a raw egg. I don't eat philidelphia or any kraft products- I use something different, It is Polish and organic and I am assuming you wouldn't be able to read the ingredients even if you googled it.
yes we all do the best we can and I like to know what my options are with regards to food, but for my health--I am not trading in one convenience food for another even though it is labelled healthy.[url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/weight-loss/wjuHGvk/]

I have read many of your postings and couldn't agree with you more. You seem to have a good grasp of the facts and have written some very good postings.
I end up coping and pasting them for future reference.
Thanks
