Finished induction today and the scale says I lost 11 pounds.
Here is the breakdown for those still on induction:
By the 4th day I lost 7 lbs.
By the 10th day I lost 10 lbs.
By the 14 day I lost 11 lbs.
The first 24 hours of induction were the most difficult. The withdrawal was really uncomfortable. It was like itching all over my body but I couldn't stratch it. I felt manic and my mind raced with thoughts. I made a induction friendly dessert that night. Once I knew I could have something sweet that I could enjoy, it helped ease the discomfort.
I used the Ketostix to help me recognize ketosis. I think having physical proof of the changes occuring in my body helped me get through the next few days because I know how hard it is to get to that stage.
I did not stop drinking diet soda until the tenth day. The withdrawal from diet soda was just as painful as the initial withdrawal from carbs. I drank a lot of diet soda on a regualar basis. I still have cravings for diet soda and carbs. I hope this gets better with time.
I didn't drink the recommended 64 oz of water everyday. Nor did I take the vitamin supplements, omega fish oil, or probiotic or exercise.
I had one major slip-up on the ninth day. I went to the movies and ate red vines and a bag of peanut butter M&Ms. By the grace of God, the next morning I was still in ketosis. I have no idea how that happened.
I'm not proud that I didn't do a clean induction but these are the facts. This post is meant as encouragement to those who are struggling though induction. If you mess up, please keep trying.
On the ninth day, I bought the approved DANDR book and read it. The next day I quit drinking diet soda and started drinking water. I switched to decaf tea. I drink at least 8 glasses a day. I am on antibiotics for a skin problem so I started a course of probiotics and a multi-vitamin and fish oil capsules.
I have recommitted myself to a clean induction. I know I won't lose much weight this time around but that isn't the point. As someone said, induction is a chance to free yourself from your addictions. Before this, I had no idea how addicted I am to carbs and diet soda.
I hope this helps anyone who is having a hard time. Keep the faith. My thanks to the board and all their support.
Sincerely,
Lollypop-
