  • Returning to Atkins

Two years ago I successfully met my weight goal (25 lbs) and then reverted to my old ways and gained it back. So last sunday 4/3 I decided to go back on the program. I'd misplaced my book and decided to proceed by just using a carb chart, forgetting that there is an acceptable food list. http://atkins.com/Archive/2001/12/15-464579.html

The good news is that I lost 6 lbs this week! However, although I kept my daily intake @ 20 grams I ate certain foods that were not on the list. For example: 1 or 2 strawberries daily, 2 Atkins advantage bars(I don't trust these), tons of zero carb flavored seltzer w sucralose (tastes great), honey cured ham, sugar free Jello w/ a t2tbs of half and half, 6-7 slices of Munster cheese daily and 1 large cup of coffee w/ half and half.

This week I'm going to lose the strawberries, Atkins bars, cut back a bit on the seltzer and cheese, get non-cured ham and keep the rest. It occured to me that this was a painless way to ease into the induction.

This time I plan to stick with it. I had forgotton how good I felt 2 years ago and had allowed feelings of depravation to cloud my thoughts and justify the return to my old ways. Gone is the mild acid reflux, bloating and gas. Now i sleep like a baby (the acid reflux impacted my sleeping) and I feel great.

    Any cmments appreciated.

That Atkins Food Pyramid is an unfortunately misleading thing Atkins Nutritionals Inc published. It's purpose was to show how balanced and varied Atkins can be---for the Pre-Maintainance and Maintenance phases.

Get a hold of the book or look through this forums' stickie posts. Do Induction the proper way.
