Im on day 5 of atkins induction and i have overcome the induction flu and i have loads of energy but my muscles are weak. I just walked up 2 flights of stairs and the muscles in my legs started burning like i was lifting weights and i was dying to sit down...is this normal. I plan on going to the gym tonight but i dont wanna go if my muscles are too tired to even walk up the stairs.

Re: Muscle Weakness
You may still be suffering from induction flu...Mine lasted quite a few days. I not only can walk up two flights of stairs (I would have been winded pre-Atkins), I can jog up them...Are you eating enough? Perhaps post a menu for review.Julie__________________F/37/5'2"__________________Start April 15, 2009

Re: Muscle Weakness
Make sure your eating your vitamins....My legs been acting up every so often..when you drink water like all people should..and like is required on atkins..it flushes minerals out fron your legs...so make sure you take a multi-vitamin with no iron...and also if you need speak with your doctor about additional supplements (potassium) if it continues.

Re: Muscle Weakness
Dr Atkins did describe what he called 'ascent weakness' possibly happening in the beginning of induction. He suggested upping your veggies over the allowed 3 cups for a few days to see if that helps. I noticed you are not availing yourself of the maximum 3 cups allowed in your posted menu unless the casserole contained 2 cups of 'salad veg', so maybe add some and see if it helps?Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

Re: Muscle Weakness
it takes a week or so for the insulin receptors on your muscles to become senseitive but give it 3 or so weeks and your muscles should be strong again
and in 2 or so months they should be stronger than they were before
only in todays world with all these high carb foods do we have unatural resistant insulin receptors on are muscles. then people think they need to eat alot of carbs to have strong muscles which is not true. the insulin receptors on your muscles go back to there natural senseitive state & or more are produced after eating low carb atkins like for awhile

Thanks!Originally posted by Mbudlite89 View PostWell I hope it improves.. My induction flu I felt REALLY weak but it was for about a day 1/2. If it lasts more than 3 days I'd say see a doctor
btw you look amazing..keep it up!!
I had the broccoli for lunch, and with the hamburger casserole there was bell peppers, broccoli and cauliflower in it. I may up my allowed vegetables as well because im started intense weight lifting.Originally posted by Elizellen View PostDr Atkins did describe what he called 'ascent weakness' possibly happening in the beginning of induction.
