  • Atkins Day Break Bars

Ok, so the book is older anyway. The bars are made by Atkins though.

So who is right the book or the bar box???

Are they, or are they not ok for induction.

(My reason for asking is this, I work on the road a lot in my job, travelling up and down the UK.....service stations are NOT low carb friendly for grabbing food on the go!)

    The book wins (sorry).

The bars are made and marketed by Atkins Nutritionals. They contain ingredients that are not legal for induction. Do not confuse Atkins Nutritionals with what Dr. Atkins wrote in DANDR2002.

That being said, hopefully some of our UK members can chime in on some good options on-the-go on the road.

Hmmm, that's frustrating isn't it. I mat have to keep them in the car as an energency....got to be better than grabbing a bag of crisps or a sandwich, surely.

If I'm only out for a day it's not to bad, I can take stuff with me, but over night it's eating the next day that's a pain.

You can have hard boiled eggs, cheese slices, pork rinds, celery, broccoli, pepperoni, sausage, bacon, lunch meat....bars are illegal period.

Yes, but all of the above would not be good if kept in a warm car over night.... And I certainly couldn't have raw or cold brocolli! Yuk!

I'm amazed that the company who pride themselves on people doing "the atkins diet" can make something, say it's legal for all phases of Atkins but in fact it's not.....how the **** does that work???

I feel misled as a consumer!

Get a little portable refrigerator (they're like $70 and plug into your car's cigarette lighter). They come with an adapter for the hotel room too. They're small enough to be convenient for the car and big enough to stash what you need in there. They're awesome.

But if you don't want to do that, it's as simple as picking up a little cooler and keeping it stocked with ice. Ice is available everywhere.

            See? Excuses gone. Problem solved.

The bars are low-carb junk food. Atkins Nutritionals has changed several things and they're out to make money.

When you read the allowable foods and you stick to only the allowable foods you will see that the bars are pretty much frakenfoods and off limits. Honestly, in 2003 when I first started on Atkins and it was all the rage the bars agreed with my body much more than they do now. They really are only for emergencies (preferrably after induction is over) and only occasionally. If you want your road to be successful, as hard as it may be, ditch the bars and eat fresh whole foods.

However, some people can tolerate the bars and still lose weight; my friend lost 120lb ate bars, drank little water and did no excercise... the rest of us struggle with them.

Although I knew the bars were "illegal" I've had one a day since I started and have still lost weight. I wouldn't condone having them and am aware there are ingredients that aren't really induction friendly but it's part of my program and I'll tell ya what: I love it !
