  • Carbs and Carbs that sugar query

    Hi,

I've recently gone on the atkins diet with my goal around 28 pounds. I noticed when I bought battered fish, it said Carbs 18g and Carbs that sugar 0.6g.

Does this mean that only 0.6g count or is it 18g?

    Thanks in advance

Battered fish would not Atkins friendly. Carb count would be 18 carbs on what you mention. 0.6 is straight sugar the rest is probably flour (which is a bad as straight sugar in my book).

I just thought I'd add for the future that to calculate carb content of a food you take the total carbs listed and deduct the fiber listed to get the "NET CARBS" and that's what you count as your carb for that particular food...although I doubt there was any fiber in the battered fish. Good luck.

Eating battered fish is not doing Atkins. It's not just eating 20 grams of carbs or less--it's where the carbs come from. White flour spikes blood sugar just as bad as pure sugar does. All of your carbs will be coming from veggies and from the carbs in legal foods like aged cheese, eggs and dairy (heavy cream, sour cream).

This is not TECHNICALLY correct...you just need to batter your fish with something Atkin's friendly and be in the appropriate rung...like egg and parmesan cheese for Induction, which is yummy! Pretty much any store bought breaded fish will not be legal. Good luck!

That was a given. Her battered fish has 18 grams of carbs per serving. Besides, egg and parm cheese is technically 'breading' not batter. I make batter for fish out of eggs and whey protein isolates.

Depends on who you ask. I think it would be. It only has 1 carb for a whole big scoop. This is the unflavored whey protein. I get it from netrition.com.
