  • Late night bingeing...help!

    Hi,
I had a great day today.....until after supper!

    Breakfast: 2 sausage patties
    Lunch: cabbage/kieabasa soup (10 carbs)
    Snack: hard boiled egg
    Supper: egg salad(3 eggs)
After Supper: 4 sausage patties, a bag of pork rinds & 3 oz. cheddar cheese

    Yikes!!!

I was feeling so good all day and then I just couldn't stop eating!!! What happened? I probably should have eaten more veggies but the soup was mostly cabbage and I probably ate 2 cups of cabbage. I drank a ton of water all day, then I just felt really hungry.

Any ideas about what to do? I think the scale is going to be mean to me tomorrow.

I read a chapter in the book everynight and I'm trying... I really am!
I have gained a pound every day since sunday, this is becoming a habit of sorts!

Um, perhaps I'm better keeping quiet, since I'm no saint, but...
If you gain a pound per day, that's 365 pounds per year. If you live more than 2 years, how will you like this image?

The sausage and pork rinds (which aren't on induction) carry a lot of salt, so that may make you retain water weight. Are you drinking your water? oops... I see where you say you are. Do you have some things on hand like celery, radishes, etc. They're crunchy and an easy snack to reach for when you are hungry.

It looks like you are way under in veggies, possibly under in fats and eating a lot of high-sodium meats. I wonder if your nighttime snacking is more from food boredom rather than hunger? The lunch soup looks good but just eggs or sausages for the other meals...well, some variety and veggies at all meals would be a nice change. Your body will be happy and be more satiated. We can eat such a wide variety of foods so maybe try some of those? I'm thinking your weight loss will improve also especially with the proper veggies throughout the day.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to stay away from those salty things for awhile! I got celery!

Veggies it is! Thanks so much for the encouragement. I almost feel like giving up!

Thank you so much! I'm going to check out some more recipes, and from what I hear sausage and pork rinds are out!

There is a sticky thread talking about this in the FAQs: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...can-i-eat.html

I am probably misreading something, but pork rinds are allowed during Induction (as long as they don't have sugar or some other non-Induction ingredient added). However, beside the fact that they have a lot of sodium and can cause water retention, they are a low-quality, incomplete protein source, with a higher percentage of glucogenic (i.e., can be converted to glucose) and glucogenic/ketogenic amino acids than meat, cheese and eggs. So not really the best idea for a snack.

Thanks Georgiana! I'll check that thread out! So is this possibly just "water weight" that I am gaining? I am hopefull it is....I didn't realize that sausage was off limits!

I'm not sure about the water weight. Depends how much you ate, since overeating "legal" foods can also add fat pounds. But if you ate pork rinds, sausage and too much cheese on a daily basis and you are salt sensitive, then my guess is that much of the weight you gained is water weight. After all, it takes 3500 extra calories to gain a pound of fat, which unless you go on a massive binge, it's a calorie level hard to achieve. A food intolerance, water retention from too much sodium (cheese, pork rinds, sausage), a slower digestion, hot weather, constipation, hormones... they all influence our weight.

Sausage can be "legal". I live in Germany, so finding non-sugary sausage is not an issue. But you need to check the ingredients. If they are all "legal" for your phase of the diet, then you can certainly eat sausage. Or you can make your own... I've seen some recipes in the cooking forums and they look pretty easy to make.

Don't forget, Atkins is a high fat diet, not a high protein diet. Dr. Atkins wrote that excess dietary protein is converted to glucose which is stored as glycogen and body fat. So overeating protein, ain't gonna help your weight loss.

Also, read the ingredients to your sausage. If it has "dextrose", "corn syrup solids", etc. then refrain from eating it or start counting the carbs. Many processed foods have less than 1 gram carb per serving. So that enables the manufacturers to label them as "0 carb". It might be accurate for the indicated serving size, but if you are eating twice or quadruple the listed serving size, you are DEFINITELY consuming countable carbs.

And don't forget, the majority of your daily carbs are to come from vegetables. So be sure you eat them.
