    Hello everyone!

My husband and I are doing Atkins together. We are currently in week 1 of Induction and we have some questions we cannot find solid answers to. I hope ya'll can help us!

    1. I know you can have up to 20 grams of carbs. So, can you have cheese? Some sites say a little, some say no, some of the posting here are people eating endless amounts of cheese in Induction. What's the straight skinny? (pun indended).

    2. Bacon: yummy bacon. I see some of the members saying they eat it on Induction, but when I was in the grocery store, I read all the labels on the bacon packages and they all had sugar in them (that's how the cure the pig). What's the rule on this?

    3. Jello-O Sugar Free Jello: ok on Induction?
    4. Real whipped cream: ok on Induction?

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY ADVICE!

    Re: Newbie questions

Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 is what we go by here.

    1. Cheese- Yes. Hard cheeses & cream cheese allowed. Up to 4oz total per day. Count 1 gram per ounce.

    2. There are some out there that do not have sugar in them. Do a search on the board for brands. Personally? I do not eat bacon during induction, and I eat processed meats 3-4 times a week.

    3. Could you work it in and justify? I suppose- but no aspartame. You're supposed to use splenda. There are some out there sweetened with Splenda. Remember, 3 servings of splenda per day. Personally? I recommend avoiding it. You're supposed to be killing your sweet tooth during induction, and if you stay away from these things, you'll find some pretty amazing things; i.e. broccoli is actually sweet, your cravings reduce, etc.

    4. Yes. There is some conflicting info on this though. Some say 1oz, some say 3oz. Both are listed in DANDR. I stick to 1oz, if I use it at all.

If you don't have a copy of DANDR 2002, get one!

HTHS & I wish you success!

      Re: Newbie questions

Thanks so much Brook! your comments affirmed what my husband suspected. I'll stay away from the bacon, jello and whipped cream for now. Not worth the risk. So,the cheese news is good. 4 oz is not that much, but it's something...
I'm just getting so sick of eggs and steak. The chicken's usually too dry to eat. Any creamy something that I can put on it?
btw, you look A-MAZING!!! WOW. You have rockin' arms. Good for you!

        Re: Newbie questions

Why is your chicken dry?? Remember, this is not like low fat dieting with that dreadful dry sawdust chicken breasts. You can have chicken thighs and legs WITH the skin now or use butter or other fats to cook your chicken (whatever part) in.

Check out some of these recipes. Lots of great ideas...much more to eat than steak and eggs. Also, the Induction dinner thread has a lot of good ideas from members here.

p.s. Look for uncured bacon...many have no sugar or nitrates/nitrites. There are also some regular bacons with no sugar (I think gwaltney is one brand). There are a ton of bacon posts here with recommendations on other brands.

I agree with Brook~if you don't have the book please do yourself a huge favor & get a copy & read it.

No need to be bored with food. No need for your chicken to be dried out. Check out this recipe website~it is awesome!

            Hey everyone!

Thanks for all the great tips and support. Mizki--your list link helped a lot...we just got back from the grocery store where we loaded up on food! I just had 2 oz of cheese and we're about to grill a big ol' giant ribeye! I'm staaarving!

I do have the book, but my Atkins flu (and the work I got to get to my boss by tonight) is sort of taking priority. Thanks everyone. I'm learning so much!.
