  • I need help...is this ok?

Alright this is my 2nd time around. Ive been doing Atkins for 2 weeks now. Week 1 I lost 20 lbs and I was "whoo-hooah" Week 2...NOTHING!!! Makes me wanna quit and find a different diet. It is so hard for me cause I work in a Bakery. I get all of the temptations! My main question is..Im not a real meat eater. And Im wondering if Im eating too many veggies and fruit. I love fruit and it is my souce of "sweet thing".
Here is a typical day for me
Breakfast: scrambled eggs with cheese and ham
    snack: 1 apple
lunch: chicken breast with side of green beans
dinner: steak with side of steamed carrots
late snack: 1 small sugar free jello

I know..maybe Im having too much veggies or fruit or what? Im really confused. I walked and walked the other day (I mean 8 miles..not a couple of blocks) and it has not shown on the scale. Im going for another walk today. I havent walked for 5 days because I had shin splints too bad. I would really appreciate if someone could help me. One other problem is 1 week into this diet I started my menstual period even though it wasnt due for another 2 weeks and it was EXTREMLY strong...and now I have it again? Any other women have this problem? Thanks for any responses
1 other question has anyone every tried the B12 metabolism pills? My friend used them and lost 30lbs just taking those.

Have you read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, version 2002? That's the version of Atkins we go by on this forum. What you're currently doing isn't Atkins Induction. Apples and carrots are not allowed during Induction, and are only introduced later in the OWL Carbohydrate Rungs. I would highly recommend you read the book, I didn't the first time I tried Atkins, and I was unsuccessful. This time, I've been cheat-free and making great progress since the day I started! Best of luck to you!

Mis, you have to cut out the fruit! There is no fruit in Induction. I'm surprised you lost your first week doing that. You certainly aren't in ketosis. The whole point of induction is to regulate blood sugar, reduce the amount of sugar in your body, and get into ketosis and you can't do any of those things if you are eating fruit or carrots. Those all turn directly into sugar in your system. I think you are actually doing South Beach, not Atkins.

So, take the fruit out, stop eating the carrots, read the book again because I think you skipped over Induction compeltely, drink tons of water and try some chicken, some fish if you don't like meat that much.

thanks guys for letting me know this. I used extra fruit and veggies this time around to try and keep myself from cheating.

Fruit and starchier veggies will make your cravings for sugar worse. Try it the way Dr. Atkins wrote the plan for 14 days. You will be able to add additional veggies and fruits later in the plan during OWL.

            1) I would check the ham for hidden sugars. Occasionally ham is loaded with honey and sweeteners.
            2) No fruit on induction. On a later rung you can have apples.
            3) No carrots. Lots of sugar in carrots.

Fruit and carrots are fine on a low calorie diet, but a low carbohydrate diet relies on regulation of blood sugar and ketosis. You'd lose weight with fruit and carrots when combined with say plain eggs and steamed chicken instead of the steak and low fat cheeses, etc. On Atkins it's all about body chemistry, and we really have to beware of sugars and starches (which turn into sugars).

Use fats to keep you from cheating and keep your weight loss at optimum. It satisfies you and keeps you from feeling deprived without messing with your blood sugar.
