  • Gaining weight during induction

I am on day 6 of the induction phase and I have gained 3lbs. I have been following the diet strictly, eating only off of the list and no cheating. I have been drinking 13 glasses of water also. What is going wrong? I did the diet two years ago and lost twenty pounds, but this time I am gaining weight. Should I go off the diet before I gain more weight?

Dr. Atkins has a section in the book that "trouble shoots". He says the most common thing that gets in the way of weight loss is certain medications. Are you exercising? Has your physical activity decreased since you've started? Have you cut caffeine and alcohol? Maybe you misinterpreted part of the diet. He does say that about 1% of the people on his diet still can't lose weight... and he has a specific plan for those people. You'll have to read the book, but I think it's something like 1000 calories a day, eating 90% fat. It didn't sound pretty, but he almost guaranteed it would work for anyone.
I'm 26 years old, and I lost weight on this plan in 2005. I'm getting married in August and thought this would be the way to go after making little progress on other diets. I've got 20 lbs to lose for the big day!

        whoa nellie

Stick to Atkins for 6 months before quitting. Allow your body to take the time it needs to make the adjustment. Also, check your ketosis strips. If they are changing color you are burning fat.

Everyone is different so just give your body time.

There are other experienced Atkineers who didn't lose, or actually gained weight at first, only to have a big whoosh down the road. It is much too soon to know if you are a person with special issues. Keep your carbs at 20 and keep going.

Most important, make sure you are eating enough! Don't skimp!
        Never skip a meal.

Suffering is necessary until you realize it is unnecessary. Eckhart Tolle

I definitely suggest posting a fed menus including amounts. I saw someone on this board give up because he thought he could eat until he was stuffed at every meal, then wondered why his 5000 calorie a day diet was making him gain weight.

                I AGREE!

I agree! Give it more time. Re-read the book go over all the possibilities, and you should start seeing results in no time.
