  • I ask myself WHY

    almost 3 weeks ago I started in a downward spiral of cheating, I do suffer from depression for past 2 years...and some events( some very small, others kinda personal) came up and I just, as I always did, gorge myself with food to feel better. I haven't even logged into website since then.

    Well b4 I cheated I weighed 210 (20 lbs from when i started almost 2 months ago) and i gained 3 lbs back. Well I kicked myself today, because like always, I will randomly come out of depression. So tomorrow I shall start clean again...and hopefully not do the same. I'm blessed i only gained 3 lbs back... So yes im back and thanks for your continuing support.

    hang in there! i absolutely know what you mean. i've been depressed before and it is so hard when you see yourself undercutting your own efforts.

    i'd suggest getting some atkins-friendly snacks that you really enjoy. like little individually wrapped cheese or something. keep it nearby and as soon as you feel like cheating have that instead. don't eat it too fast--break it into a few bites, which will give your mind time to realize that you're appeasing it.

        Well I am ADHD..but I quittaking that medicine like 3-4 years ago because I felt I didn't need it. It was called Strattera. I to scared to go to doctors because I dont trust them...and I hate telling people my problems....i was in Counciling from like 4th grade til 9th.

          mbud - wishing you well! Just move forward, believe in yourself and eat well. Get rid of all bad foods, so at least they are not in the house. Maybe find someone you can talk to so you can get thru these things. Focus on your health, mental and physical. Come and chat often!

            Heh, i wish i could get rid of it in the house but i live with parents and there grandkids...its not so much temptation but when i feel down...I dont think well

              sorry, it is difficult when there are others in the house not following plan. Just keep yourself stocked well. When you get down, how about attacking a big steak, smothered in onions/mushrooms ?? Focus on exercise also, healthy body will help the mind.

                    Im glad you are back...we BOTH have been awol for a while and im back from eating off plan for about two weeks now. We can get through this together...i am here and so our many others for you!

                      Strattera is good for helping you focus... my son took it all through high school, (he's autistic) but after high school he quit taking it as well... I think he outgrew the need for it. Now he takes Abilify for depression. However, it is very expensive. I take Lexapro for depression which isn't that expensive and works great for me. If it wasn't for the medication I wouldn't even be on this diet. I would be too depressed to even care if I was fat or not...

                      I've found that a good psychiatrist will ask three questions... How are you sleeping, how is the medication working... and do you want more?

                      I leave all that talking stuff to the psychologists and counselors and I don't really feel like I need to 'talk' about things when I'm on the medication and everything is copacetic.

                      Now since you aren't down all the time but just some times, they may find that you are bi-polar which is a fancy word for mood swings...

                      If you find that depression 'keeps' derailing your diet over a period of say a year or so, seeing a p-doc would be something to consider... All ya gotta say is you are depressed and don't care about anything during periods of time etc... Usually they are on a tight schedule and don't want your life history or anything... since you don't like talking about yourself that way...

                      Perhaps 'talking' here will help you see that it's not so bad afterall

                        Hi mbud...it is tough to be good to yourself, or to do anything good for yourself, when you are depressed. I take an anti-depressant, and it makes a huge difference in being able to stick with this WOE & my exercise. I hope that you are back on track and able to keep both feet on the wagon. We're pulling for you!
