I ate at a Barbq rest. alot, before I started Atkins, I have been really watching rest. for hidden sugar (do the Ribeye at Chili's a couple of times), the place is Spring Creek Barbeque, I called the mgr today, he told me he was watching his carbs as well so I figured he would give the right info (their nutrition info is not provided in their website).
He told me on the chicken, they put a minimal amount of basting recipe that contains a very small amount of sugar that he wouldn't worry about, thats my fav but I'm not sure if I want to risk it, the brisket he said is just smoked, ribs they put barbq sause on before cooking but he said he cooks off (I'm staying away from the ribs though), ranch he said they homemake at the rest and they put buttermilk/mayonnaise in, no sugar, I figure I'm good on that, I do not require much dressing anyway. He did say (which I knew) to stay away from the sauce, they put alot of sugar in.
Even though he said I'd be Ok on the chicken, what are your thoughts about the minimal amount of sugar, since I am still in induction.

    Re: Barbeque Restaurants

Sugar is pure evil on this diet...I still avoid it like the plague (6 months in). I found some sugar-free BBQ sauce and make my own at home...it isn't quite as nice as going out, but I know what is in my food and have -70lbs to show for it.

No matter what you choose to do in the long run, I would definitely avoid this during induction.

I understand he is not following Atkins. 3 g of sugar, for example, might not sound like a lot to him. For you though, it would be a lot!

ribs they put barbq sause on before cooking but he said he cooks off (I'm staying away from the ribs though)
What cooks off? The sauce? I don't see how that can happen...

Buttermilk is not allowed before OWL Rung 2. Kudos for asking about sugar, but you always need to check all the ingredients in the foods you plan to eat.

I'm staying away from the restaurants right now, thx for the advise, stick to my homecooking, consists of pork chop tonight, and green beens (which I found out I could eat in another thread, nice change from salad).

green beans, broccoli, asparagus, spinach, jicama, summer squash, zucchini, spaghetti squash ---lots of choices.

Here's my favorite BBQ recipe for chicken. marinate the chicken for 4-6 hours in 1/2 cider vinegar and 1/2 water. (If you marinate longer it gets too vinegary, less and you don't taste it). Then drain and sprinkle liberally with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, Italian seasoning, Mrs Dash--whatever combination looks good to you! Grill it slowly and season it again when you flip it. Sometimes if I am in a hurry I will microwave the chicken for about 6-8 minutes befoe seasoning and grilling. Then I know the middle is cooked and 10-15 mins on a low grill is all it needs to taste BBQed

Oh, but you don't have to eat salad at all if you don't want salad. All the vegetables on the salad and "other" veggies lists can be cooked. There are 54 veggies on the list, so plenty of choices. You can check not2late's blog for some ideas on how to cook salad veggies: M for Miscellaneous: Re-Post of a Post.

              Re: Barbeque Restaurants

I just had the shredded chicken sandwich at Famous Daves BBQ. I took the chicken off the bun and ate it solo. There was some kind of marinade on the chicken which tasted good, but it was very thin. I also had a house salad without the croutons. I'm sure there was sugar of some sort on the chicken, but I didn't want to deprive hubby of eating at his favorite restaurant. My weight stayed the same which is normal for eating 'out'...

I wouldn't eat it during induction though...
