I am in induction. My problem is that I never want to eat because I don't care for/get sick of the induction food. I don't want my caloric intake to get too low, though, and slow my metabolism. Any ideas? For example, are there any supplements/shakes, etc. that are ok for induction? I'm sure I'm stuck with the acceptable food list, but just thought I'd ask...

You don't like food?
What are you eating?

Re: calories without food!
Oh, I LOVE food, just not induction food! haha I eat eggs, chicken, pork, steak, cheddar cheese, cucumbers, celery and tomatoes. I eat olives sometimes to cure "cravings". I really don't care for any of the other foods, and if I eat more of what I just listed, I get sick.

Re: calories without food!
Are those the only veggies you like? Unless you are willing to try new ones (there are 54 vegetables on the Acceptable Foods List), it will be very difficult for you to stick to Atkins. Most of our carbs should come from vegetables.Originally posted by ampa View PostI eat eggs, chicken, pork, steak, cheddar cheese, cucumbers, celery and tomatoes. Do you have some sort of food allergy to all other foods on that list? Or do you just not like them? Did you try all the other 51 vegetables? Did you try different ways to cook them?if I eat more of what I just listed, I get sick.
Could you post a complete menu? Include quantities and carb counts."Get action. Seize the moment. Man was never intended to become an oyster."

Re: calories without food!
I've tried all the other vegetables; I don't care for them. Maybe I should specify - Atkins has always worked for me over the course of many, many years (all phases, on and off). I'm not having trouble sticking to it or losing weight; I'm trying to make induction more pleasant (for me), if possible. I'm pretty sure that can't be done in my personal case, but I thought I'd see if there were any ideas out there TO ADD CALORIES WHILE STICKING TO INDUCTION. I don't think there are ways, but I thought I'd see. I'll just have to try to stomach MORE of the food that I do like or add the ones I don't care for.

Re: calories without food!
Are you sure? Going on and off indicates that something is not quite as it should be. Since we should eat plenty of vegetables on Atkins, maybe more veggie variety would help you stick to it better, without going on and off.Originally posted by ampa View Postover the course of many, many years (all phases, on and off). Only foods that are on the list. Adding fat to your menu (butter, oils, cream, avocado, sour creme, etc.) will increase your calories. If you want to post a menu (with carb counts), we can make more suggestions.I thought I'd see if there were any ideas out there TO ADD CALORIES WHILE STICKING TO INDUCTION.Last edited by Georgiana; October 13, 2009, 01:11 PM."Get action. Re: calories without food!
Have you tried jicama fries? My favorite is jicama fried in peanut oil. To me they taste like slightly sweet french fries (doubt I would have noticed the sweetness if I hadn't given up sugar 6 months ago!
)

Re: calories without food!
With the exception of JulieB, this is a tough site, isn't it?? haha I can't help but make a remark to Georgiana since you are a moderator. I asked a very specific question and I greatly appreciate the recommendation to the question I asked - adding fats like butter - that's exactly why I came to this site. However, posters might feel more comfortable if only the questions asked are addressed. I'm not quite sure how questioning my statements helps me? Especially when they're not related to the subject of my post? I could list all the times I've done Atkins, for how long, how much weight I lost - I'm not quite sure what that has to do with asking about creative ways to increase calories during induction?
Thanks JulieB - I'm definitely going to try those.

Re: calories without food!
I don't agree that Georgiana isn't trying to help you -- in fact she is - by getting to the point of finding why you have been on Atkins several times and never stuck to it...Atkins isn't a "diet" it's a WOE for life. So if you take offense to her questions then you may not get the help you are looking for.
The name of your post "calories without food" is a little offputting....how does anyone get calories in their diet without food? As far as an easy shake for induction -- eating whole foods is what is recommended in the book -- not shakes - you need to eat your meals, not drink them. The Atkins shakes (as well as any other shakes on the market) are filled with ingredients that aren't allowed on induction so they aren't encouraged during that phase...many people use them in emergency once they are higher up the rungs.
It's sad you only like a very few vegetables - maybe you can slip different vegetables into your foods when you are cooking them so you can get your daily allowance. Without the vegetables you aren't going to have an easy time with Atkins, and actually, without the daily allowance of vegetables you aren't "technically" on the Atkins plan....Atkins isn't protein only.
It looks like you only like salad vegetables -- you don't like green beans? broccoli, cauliflower, any of the other vegetables on the second list? I can't imagine not eating the variety of vegetables I eat.
Good luck to you.Carole_____________________May Water 130oz daily

There you go ... the real issue then, eh? Atkins isn't something one "goes off" ... at least not without consequences.
>>I've tried all the other vegetables; I don't care for them.>>
Is it perhaps the way the vegetables were prepared?
Seriously, Induction vegetables are the foundation of Atkins done properly ... if you can't eat them now ... how are you going to eat them in OWL?
Or is your plan to just keep going on and off?J.

Re: calories without food!
Atkins is not a way of life for me. I believe in portion control with balanced meals. Sometimes I get off track and then I follow Atkins for several weeks or months. This has worked well for me. I lose as much weight as I want whenever I want while staying healthy and happy. My physician agrees. I am now realizing that this forum was a big mistake, but I do really appreciate the ideas from JulieB and Liv. Thank you.
You know what's REALLY sad Carole? Not my dislike of vegetables, but the condescending attacks on this forum. I have to laugh because I never thought I'd be so pressed to EXPLAIN myself when I posted my question!

How is that not Atkins?

At some point that won't work as easily as it does now ... or has in the past.
Hope you find a Way of Eating for life that you can tolerate!J.
