  • New Dieter..Need help

    I started on 10/6/09 on Dr. Atkins. Started with the basic, meat, cheese, eggs and about 1 cup of chopped brocolli. For four days the ketostick did not do anything but trace. So I cut out the brocolli. Still only trace. So I cut down on the portions and tried to eat more lean meat like chicken and cut back on the cheese. I finally got a medium reading for a couple of days and today without any change to my lean meat, eggs and a little cheese I got trace. I weighed today and I dropped about 4 pounds according to the scale. I don't understand this. Can someone explain it and explain why I can't get the readings I need on the Ketostick?

    Some people simply never spill any extra ketones ... so their pee never changes the color on a stick.

    Having your pee change the color of a stick isn't the goal with Atkins.

    Having your pee change the color of a stick is only ONE indication that you're in ketosis.

    And ... trace is fine. It means you're in ketosis (fat burning).

    However, dropping the vegetables is a bad bad idea.

    You need to eat the required vegetables ... for many reasons, one of which is proper nutrition.

    Undereating will not lead to better weight loss.

      OK THanks for the info. So can I eat unlimited brocolli or just one cup a day. I also bought some of the miricle noodles. THey are all fiber. Can you comment on them too?

        It's not unlimited.

        You should eat two cups of vegetables from the "salad" list and one cup from the "other" vegetables list.

        If you ate more than one cup of broccoli, you'll still be fine.

        The miracle noodles are not appropriate for Induction. They're not on the list.

          Yeah - those sticks are not the end all of this diet. Many people will see nada on them. What you really have to go by is the losing part.
          And this is not really a "cutting diet" this is an "adding diet"
          Make sure you get your 3 cups of veggies. Our bodies like nutrition
          And make sure you get enough fat - around 65% of our calories should come from fat.

            Its been said many times before but - the sticks are like a pregnancy test, either you are or you aren't so trace is just as good as dark purple--better even because dark means you aren't getting enough water. And absence of color does not mean you aren't in ketosis. It just means there wasn't enough to register on the sticks for you.

            Reread the section on Induction slowly and thoroughly. It will guide you safely through.
