    Hello,
Today is day 15 of induction, I weighed myself on day 6 at 128.2. I've followed the plan to a T and got on the scale today and weighed 129.6. I gained weight!?!?!? Has anyone else experienced this?
I drink about 100 oz of water a day, my menu generally consists of:
    breakfast: 2 eggs
    1 slice colby cheese
    2 slices bacon
2 cups decaf coffee with 2 splenda and 1 tbs. cream

    snack: egg or string cheese

    Lunch: 2 cups spinach
1 stalk celery, half a cucumber, no carb dressing- 2 tbs blue cheese
some type of meat- chicken, hamburger, steak mixed in

    Dinner: turkey burger/hamburger/chicken
    1 slice of cheese
    2 tbs. mayo
on a bed of spinach, celery (less than a cup)

And I am exercising- every day I run/walk at least 4 miles.
Should I throw in the towel?

    Frustrated,
    Karen

I'm not sure what your weight loss goal is, but be aware that the rule of thumb is that we can expect to lose 5-10% of the weight we need to lose during Induction. So if you have a 10 pound weight loss goal, you can expect to lose 1/2 to 1 pound, and if you have a 100 pound weight loss goal, you can expect to lose 5-10 pounds.

Also if you are already in the "normal" weight range for your BMI, you might find your weight loss to be slower than someone who is in the overweight/obeses/morbidly obese BMI ranges.

The cheese....cut out the cheese and the splenda. You may have an intolerance to the mold and or fake surgar, that may be causing your metabolism some problems.

Are you new to exercise? When I started exercising I gained weight that week (the only weigh-ins I count are on Tuesday mornings) and really freaked out. The experts on this board told me to calm down, my body was adjusting to exercise, and you know what? They were right. The next week I was down 8 pounds! I could be an adjustment to exercise.

I have also seen people not lose and/or gain on this board for no apparent reason and when they stick it out, they are on the losing path again in no time. I was frustrated several times in the beginning but I'm so glad I didn't quit! I feel like a different person!!

          Hi again,
Thank you for the responses. Wow- as far as cheese and splenda- that will be hard for me to cut out. I will try losing the splenda, but I have stayed under 2 packets a day, sometimes one. And cheese- I love cheese. I'll try to get rid of that today (just had breakfast with a slice of cheese).
As far as exercise, no I'm not new to it. I've always worked out at least 5 days a week. Ugh!
My weight loss goal is 20 pounds.
I was feeling so hopeful when I got on the scale today- and my body has been in ketosis- I have measured with the sticks every other day or so.
          This stinks!

Ok, 2 cups of spinach at lunch, a stalk of celery, half a cucumber and about a cup of spinach at dinner...that is definitely over 3 cups of veg a day. You are probably eating 4 at least. Try knocking the veggies down to 3 cups and spread them out better, you seem to be eating most at lunch. Also, if you only have 20 pounds to lose and you lost that much your first week feel very lucky! With a 20 pound weight loss you would have been luck to get 2 pounds the first two weeks.

Take time with your body. Since you have so little to lose it will take a while longer. And the gain? Happens all the time. Your body will hold onto water for many different reasons and then suddenly it will all woosh away. Perfectly normal.

I agree with Bella. With so little to lose it is going to creep off slowly. As far as today goes, is TOM coming? Or did you eat soy or red meat last night (both cause me to hold water) there are lots of reasons you could be up on the scale but that doesnt mean you have gained fat. Its probably water. Sometimes if you really change up your exercise routine it can shake things loose. Otherwise, wait it out a week. This does work but folks sometimes have some wacky results on the scale before they show a real drop. Have some patience with your body.

There is no way an extra cup of spinach (0.4 net carbs, 7 kcal) or celery (1.9 net carbs, 16 kcal) caused you to gain weight. On the contrary, I believe your veggie carbs might be too low.

Did you follow some diet right before starting Atkins? And what Megs asked... what's your height?

It's difficult to post net carbs for me, I don't really have the time to go onto fitday.com, but I do keep a journal. I overestimate when I write down what I eat- for example, I write 1 carb for an egg, etc. I thought I wasn't eating enough veggies but now with the weight GAIN (I noticed other posters thought I had lost- I actually gained a pound and a half since I started. I didn't follow any diet right before Atkins, this has actually been very good for me because I was so addicted to carbs and I was free with wine, so now this gets me back to a healthier lifestyle, but I really want to see some type of reward for all the hard work I'm doing following this. My height is 5'4, and I know I don't have a ton of weight to lose but I would like to be down to 110 or so since I have a small frame. I guess I need to stay in induction and give up splenda and cheese and see what happens. I seriously thought I would get on the scale and notice a loss. I also try to eat chicken more than red meat because of the posts I've read. Last night I had a turkey burger, so that wouldn't have caused water weight gain. I don't know. Thanks for all your advice.

My best advice is you will lose, but you will have to be patient. Any weight loss program you will choose, your weight loss will be slow because you are so close to goal weight. People like me with 100+# to lose will drop a lot of weight in the beginning, and you can't compare that weight loss to yours. When I get down to within 20# of my goal, it will take me much much longer to lose those last 20# than the first 20#.

So just hang in there and it WILL work.

                              >>t's difficult to post net carbs for me, I don't really have the time to go onto fitday.com, but I do keep a journal.>>

You don't have to enter things in Fitday. Since you keep a journal ... you can write down your carbs there. The downside to estimating is that you can't problem solve then. You should count accurately for a while ... so you know what's going on. No one can help you without good data ... and you can't help yourself without good data.

                              >> I seriously thought I would get on the scale and notice a loss. >>

That's the trouble with expectations ... they mostly leave us disappointed! Seriously, I "expected" to lose all my weight in a year ... that's what my Fitday trend line told me! Had I given up when that expectation didn't happen, well ... I might be back to where I started.

Maybe you should look at the other benefits of Atkins ... and stop focusing on the scale ...

                              >>I thought I wasn't eating enough veggies but now with the weight GAIN>>

More vegetables isn't likely the culprit.

                              >>I guess I need to stay in induction>>

                              OWL might actually help.

                              >> was 110 5 years ago >>

                              Maybe that's just not possible.

Focusing on a number on the scale isn't the best way to approach this lifestyle, I've found.
