    Re: Induction and calorie counting

I do have DANDR - that's what started this whole question. My DANDR says 3 oz heavy cream is permitted in the "special category" foods. That food list is the same as the one on atkins.com

Oh well, I'm going going to follow what the book says - it mirrors what is on the website. If it's not working for me then clearly, the heavy cream is the first thing to go.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts !

The correct limit of cream is 2-3 Tbs.

See the note in Chapter 11 under Beverages.

The "ounce" limit is a typo (or error in editing)

And the list isn't to be trusted!

Go ahead ... find green beans on the List of Acceptable Foods for Induction at Atkins.com (even calling them 'string beans' like DANDR).

And the carb counts on the list at Atkins.com are sometimes incorrect, too!

I saw that but if heavy cream is already listed in the regular induction foods list then why is it included in the special category foods as well? Cheese and sour cream are also listed on both the regular induction list as well as the special category list.

Special category foods says "Each day you can ALSO eat......." So to me, those foods are in addition to the foods already listed on the acceptable induction list.

          It's all so confusing......

I'm just going to watch it and see how I do. I don't eat much cheese or other things from the special category list. Cream is the only thing so, we'll see. If it interferes with weight loss then I'll cut it back.

If the induction list in the book and on the website can't be trusted, if the carb counts are incorrect, then what are we to do?

I'm just going to do my best. Count my carbs and be diligent in doing the best I can do. I guess that's all any of us can do.

The list in the book is to be trusted. I was referring only to the list at Atkins.com. I'll edit my previous post for clarity.

As to the cream conundrum ... I have no idea why it's listed twice ... I would stick to the 2-3 tbs. limit.

                Re: Induction and calorie counting

In a 2002 interview, Colette Heimowitz, who worked with Dr. Atkins, said this about the cream discrepancy:

"The correct total amount of heavy cream is 2-3 tablespoons or 1-1.5 oz."
