  • My first Thread: Induction Phase

    Hi all:

I have started my atkins diet a week a go , today is my seventh day. I lost 2 Kg = 4.4 pounds. I am a little dissappointed because I do also sport ( some jugging, cycling, and lifting weight ). When I started I checked the web regarding Atkins diet, I didnt know that diet Coke or Zero Coke are banned, so i was drinking that all the time ( almost 4 cans a day). I drink 2 cups of coffee too. Regarding vegetibales , I dont eat them at all, I am afread to eat any because I dont know what and when and what combination eventhough I looked at the menues tens of times but it is very confusing mainly because of the serving size that makes me wonder and I am now really tired because I feel out of energy. I want to finish my second week, but I want to lose more Kgs, so how , can you help me please, Thanks

Scheduling your weight loss doesn't work. As you've seen, you're only setting yourself up for disappointment. One who is following Atkins is improving one's health, and health benefits are not measured only in pounds.

When I started I checked the web regarding Atkins diet
You need to read the book to learn Atkins, not whatever stuff a bunch of knuckleheads write online.

I didnt know that diet Coke or Zero Coke are banned
They stall or slow down weight loss for some people. Others are fine drinking them. But they are junk, imo. We should eat real food on Atkins, not junk. Whether it's carby junk or low carb junk... it's still junk.

i was drinking that all the time ( almost 4 cans a day).
Then you have been going over your sweetener limit. Sweeteners are limited to 3 packets/servings per day. 8 oz of diet soda is 1 serving of sweetener.

I drink 2 cups of coffee too.
Some people are fine drinking coffee...

Regarding vegetibales , I dont eat them at all
If you are not eating vegetables, you are not following Atkins. They are not optional. Cheese is optional. Eggs are optional. Sweeteners are optional. But not vegetables!

Induction is 20 net carbs, with the majority of them from vegetables.

I am afread to eat any because I dont know what and when and what combination
Did you check the Acceptable Foods List? There you go: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html.

When? Whenever you want. But it's better to spread them throughout the day, to avoid blood sugar spikes.

The combinations (if any) depend on your taste. If I like a salad with tomato, cucumber, spinach, onion, etc., it doesn't mean you do too.

it is very confusing mainly because of the serving size
What is confusing about the serving size? You can eat whatever serving size suits your appetite. Just count the net carbs and don't go over 20.

I am now really tired because I feel out of energy.
This should stop once you start following Atkins correctly.

I want to finish my second week, but I want to lose more Kgs, so how , can you help me please
You need to help yourself. First thing to do is read the book: "Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution" (2002). Then you need to follow the Atkins WoE as written, not tweak it to your liking.

This sticky thread will help you with Induction, but it is not a substitute for the book: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...tion-faqs.html.

Congratulations on getting that scale moving.

Unlike you I actually have always found Atkins plan to be very clear. He has a eat this and not that approach to dieting. It works for me.
Take some time to check the list of allowed foods and eat only those and you should feel better.

Not uncommen to see a bit of a loss of energy in the beginning as the body get used to converting fat to energy but when that process gets started, you should be fine.

Re: My first Thread: Induction Phase

Follow Georgiana's advice and do this properly and inside a week you should see a better loss and feel a million times better. How much do you have to lose? That also affects how quickly you will lose. Sweeteners alone are enough to prevent a loss so giving up the Coke Zero will definitely help. It also helps train your sweet tooth not to crave the sweet stuff if you don't give it a fix for a couple of weeks, That's one of the goals of Induction. Finally, one sweetener is an 8 ounce portion of soda, not a 16 ounce bottle so if you DO indulge, count them all since you are only allowed 3 a day.

When I have one, I buy bottles and pour 8 ounces into a glass and alternate sips of water with the Coke Zero since I sometimes fail to drink the required 64+ ounces of plain water a day. That way I get rid of the thirst, get in my water, and still get a Coke treat all in one.
