  • Still wondering about starting over

I posted a question about should how I should start over, it was "Should I start over on induction?" I got several replies, all were just talking back and forth about how to retreive messages, or something...view the post and maybe you can understand what they were discussing...I'm very new to this site, and the computer so alot of things don't make sense...nobody answered my question about how I should go about starting the 14 day induction...anyway my questions are if I'm in ketosis from another low carb diet can I start straight to the Atkins induction...or should I eat normal for a coulple of days to throw my body out of ketosis and start the Atkin Induction? One more question...I was told to eat only the foods on the induction list but I'm seeing some veggies that are not listed in the induction list, that are being used in some of the induction recipes, like cauliflower, so I'm wondering if I can eat any veggie as long as I don't go over my 20 grams? I have the book reserved at the library, and once I get it I won't be bugging ya'll so much.

    >>how I should go about starting the 14 day induction>>

    You just start.

    >>f I'm in ketosis from another low carb diet can I start straight to the Atkins induction>>

    Yes. Ketosis is ketosis.

Cauliflower is on the list of Acceptable Foods.

No, you cannot eat any vegetable as long as you don't go over your 20 net carbs.

If you're going to do Atkins as a lifestyle, you really should own the book.

I guess you didn't see my post from this morning. So I'll re=post it here.

It's true you weren't doing Atkins Induction Phase. You were doing Atkins On-Going Weight Loss Phase

...My body show to be in ketosis some days but not others(I test daily)
Doesn't matter what the ketostix say---they aren't 100% predictive of weight loss. Were you losing pounds/inches during this time? If you were losing pounds/inches, you were in ketosis.

....what would be the best way to start the atkins induction? Should I start straight from what I been doing...or should I eat normal for a day or two to throw my body out of ketosis and then start fresh? Which way will give me better weight loss...I am chossing this diet for the health benefits, but I am overweight, and would like the quickest weight loss method.
You need to get this "lose weight fast" approach out of your head, since you went on Atkins for the health benefits. This is going to be a long haul. Afterall, you didn't gain your weight overnight, so why do you expect to lose it over a shorter period of time?
The purpose of Induction is two-fold: to get your body into a fat-burning metabolism and to give you some control of your appetite. Since you have been limiting yourself to 20-30 grams of carbs daily, you are already in that fat burning metabolism and you won't get that initial fast weight loss you previously experienced.

But if you really want to go back and do Induction, just start it. No need to "eat normally" (whatever that truly means.) Then after you finish your Induction, move to ON-Going WEight Loss Phase.

One more question...I was told to eat only the foods on the induction list but I'm seeing some veggies that are not listed in the induction list, that are being used in some of the induction recipes, like cauliflower, so I'm wondering if I can eat any veggie as long as I don't go over my 20 grams? Which edition of the book are you using? Cauliflower has been an acceptable vegetable on Atkins since the 1992 edition of the book.

Sorry for being part of messing up your thread tracee - glad you started a new one. What kind of diet were you doing? I would do induction for a bit if I was in your shoes just to get hang of getting those veggies right because the next step is to build up from those specific veggie carbs. Welcome.
