Re: Anyone using low carb products ? , please help
The bars and shakes are notorious for stalling or stopping weight loss in some folks. So we don't encourage their use at all.Originally posted by gracem21HI, Im new and wondering

Low carb breads, pitas, wraps---they all contain grains. Again, not appropriate for the Induction phase. They, however, can be introduced during the grain rung of the OWL phase---in limited amounts.
The low carb dairy beverages---again, it's an OWL food, specifically the dairy rung of OWL.
Cereals---depends what's in them. Some of them are soy based and some of them are grain based. And some of them combine nuts, gains and soy. So these too are reintroduced during the appropriate rung of OWL.
As for vegetables, well, they are important for good health. No way around them. Try out different vegetables on the food list and see what you like and don't like. I was a vegetarian for a number of years and I found that main reason why folks developed a vegetable prejudice was because they never had those vegetables properly prepared or they were exposed to a parent with similar food prejudices and had never even tried certain vegetables before.~Megs~

Sorry Grace, if you don't "do" veggies, then you are not doing Atkins by the Book. Vegetables are mandatory in this WOE, and you must have them for thei vitamins and fiber they provide. I agree with Not2Late about trying different vegetables. Use fresh veggies, and don't overcook them. Lots of people say they don't like vegetables because all they've ever had is canned or overcooked frozen. You can't go wrong lightly sauteeing vegetables in butter then adding some fresh herbs or just salt and pepper.
As for the salads - you don't have to have actual salads - cut up cucumber or green pepper, or any of the other "salad" vegetables and dip them in dressing.
The bars and shakes completely derailed my weight loss efforts last time. Save them for absolute emergencies, when you can't get to real food and you about to keel over from hunger. Then drink a ton of water to help flush them out.Lorraine
First Start 9/03. Lost 20 pounds despite not exercising. (My lipids were great, though!)
Gained it back after falling off the wagon a year later.
Second Start 4/5/05
234/226/165 and vowing to exercise this time!

I have to disagree with you ztachick. As I outlined above, these products can be incorporated into Atkins---at the appropriate rungs of OWL. If Grace is willing to follow the OWL ladder, she will be able to eat these foods while doing Atkins. However, if she's under the mistaken belief that Atkins consists of only one weight loss phase, Induction, then she really has to re-read the book and look through the OWL and Maintenance forums to get a better understanding of what this diet is all about.Originally posted by ztachickHi there :wave if you are WANTING to use these products in your low carb lifestyle then you wont be doing atins it will be your own low carb plan- so if that is what you wnat you may want to try reposting htis in the forum"low carb dieting other then atkins" or om Pebbles she is good to talk to about things like this- remember if you do use these products and you are not losing weight plaease dont give up on low carb just stopp the predone foods, shakes nad do atkins and then you may be a change good luck in what you decide to do :yes

gracem21- welcome! just becuase you are not technically doing atkins does not mean it will not work- although you do have to rememebr that you may not lose it as fast since its not the "proper" way to do things. that also doesnt mean that you are not welcome on all places of this board- just a side note though- if you do give others advice follow the Atkins advice when you give advice to those outside the low carb forum, as to not confuse others that are trying to do atkins the "right way". if you need anything just pm me. good luck :waveORIGINALLY STARTED:
