  • Frustrated with Induction

I'm frustrated. I've been in Induction for 9 days now, I'm in Moderate ketosis everyday, and yet I'm not losing any weight. I just fluctuate between 166 and 170 everyday. Usually, I'll be lighter in the morning and heavier in the evenings. I walk about 45 minutes everyday. I've been eating acceptable foods and also the Atkins Advantage shakes are bars that are labeled appropriate for Induction. I haven't gone over 20 carbs a day yet. What could be my problem?

As you've seen, weight loss does not depend on the color of the ketostix.

NOOOOO!!! These are notorious stallers. If you check the ingredients on the bars, they should not be allowed on Induction, despite what is claimed on the label. And they are processed food... which is not what Atkins is about. Also... substituting sugary sweets with low carbs sweets won't help you change your eating habits, imo.

Post a complete menu, including quantities, net carbs and total calories and we can take a look.

How much water are you drinking?

But if those products shouldn't be allowed, why does Atkins say that we can have some convenience foods during Induction and why are they labeled appropriate? I went about 6 days into Induction before I had to have one so I don't know if I can control my craving for sweets. I do drink a lot of water but I think it might be below 64 oz. I don't have a set diet plan everyday, though.

        Ka-ching!

I went about 6 days into Induction before I had to have one so I don't know if I can control my craving for sweets.
You can... if you plan. Have some "legal" food around to fight off those cravings. A snack that combines fat, protein and some of your veggie carbs will help.

I do drink a lot of water but I think it might be below 64 oz.
You need at least 64 oz. The more you weigh, the more water your body needs. Often people do not lose weight because they are not drinking enough water.

I don't have a set diet plan everyday, though.
        Planning is essential, imo.

So how many calories are you eating? Post what you had today for example, with quantities and net carbs for all foods.

            Do you eat your vegetables?
We follow the book here and the rules of induction. They usually work. But you need to eat your 3 cups of salad vegetables, not overdo protein and get about 65% of your calories from fat.
Do you use FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal ? Helpful resource.

The bars are not legal because they have non-Induction ingredients in them. And if I recall correctly... except maybe the vanilla shake... the other shakes have non-Induction ingredients too.

Anyway... ANI claims they have 14 studies showing that people consuming two Atkins products per day still lost weight just fine. They claim it does not interfere with weight loss and it actually helps people stick better to the plan. How they figured out that they do not interfere with weight loss (like, slow it down... even if not stall it) it's a bit of a mystery for me. Especially since I've often seen the opposite among Atkineers!

I think that some people cannot lose when eating the bars. I'm one of those. Stay with real food for a while and see how you do.

You shouldn't be weighing yourself twice a day, or even once a day. Once a week is best. Your weight will always go up and down from day to day. Don't make yourself crazy checking the scale every day. This is a long term journey, it is what you will weigh down the line while learning to eat properly and exercising, not what one day of Atkins eating will do to the scale tomorrow-(as tempting as it may be). And what you eat one day does not necessarily register on the scale the next day. Hang in there, it will happen if you follow the rules. Read up as much as you can from the book and all of the great posts here. And...EVERYONE loses at a different speed. Don't compare yourself to anyone else.

Ok, I've cut out the bars and shakes and started drinking more water. I'll let everyone know in a week how it's going.
