Re: Is this another stupid "veggie" question?
Hey if you read this before you will see it changed now. LOL. Georgiana gave me a heads up on some advice from the Atkins folks. Yes you can successfully substitute INDUCTION FRIENDLY veggies for the salad veggies as long as you don't exceed your 20 grams. Lots of folks like the lettuce because it gives more volume, but you can do it with other acceptable veggies.
By the way with only 30 pounds left to lose it would be wise to move on to OWL so you can start figuring out your trouble foods and how to add things back in so you don't put the weight back on. You will still lose weight but you will learn how to maintain too.Last edited by chinadoll; October 24, 2009, 12:12 AM.

If it's a question, it's not stupid.
Just because the first list of veggies has so-called "salad vegetables", it does not mean those vegetables need to be eaten in a salad. All the veggies on the "salad" list can be cooked if you wish... including lettuce! And I know you didn't say this... but just to make it clear for everyone reading this thread... the list of salad vegetables has more than lettuce; it includes veggies such as peppers, mushrooms, jicama, celery, cucumber, radishes, etc.Originally posted by myquest2shine View PostCan I substituite and eat 3 cups of cooked veggies instead of 2c salad plus a cup of the veg allowed on induction?
Choose a variety of veggies from both lists, to give your body proper nutrition. Don't eat only tomatoes... only pumpkin... or only lettuce. And also spread your net carbs throughout the day, to avoid blood sugar spikes. For example, don't have no veggies for breakfast, a lettuce salad for lunch... and then "load" on a big serving of pumpkin lasagna for dinner.
As for "3 cups"... if someone chooses to eat only super low carb veggies, like romaine lettuce, arugula or endives... then eating more than 3 cups is fine as long as you measure your veggies properly, make sure you count the net carbs correctly and don't go over 20 net carbs. Of course, if you choose higher carb veggies, like jicama, red peppers, onion, etc., then there is nothing wrong with eating 3 cups. But otherwise you are only cheating yourself of nutrition. The reason why "cups" appear in DANDR is because Dr. Atkins thought it will be easier for people to measure their veggies by cups, rather than grams (or oz)."Get action. Seize the moment.
