  • Ive slipped again!!! Help!!!

    Hi all,

So I finally passed my driving test today and went for a meal with family to celebrate...... (I'm sure you can guess where this is heading!!!)

Hand 1/4 of roasted chicken, lettuce cucmber and mayo salad, buttered mushrooms and diet lemonade...... then.......

had 5 fries and 4 tea spoons of vanilla ice cream & spray cream and 2 of chocolate fudge cake!!!!!

I feel such a failure have only done 1 week of induction, today was the 1st day of the 2nd week.

felt so guilty I headed straight to the gym did a high interval training fitness class for 1 hour and 20 mins on the tread mill (speed walking) then walked home from the gym another 20 mins (walk). am going again tomorrow too (dont normally go on wednesdays)

will this help at all, how long will it take me to get back into ketosis??

Not looking for sympathy at all, totally no I'm just letting myself down but want to know should I start induction again from scratch. have lost 7lbs this week will I gain it back from this??

    Please help need advice!!!!

The roasted chicken might have had sugar. Maybe that triggered cravings?

had 5 fries and 4 tea spoons of vanilla ice cream & spray cream and 2 of chocolate fudge cake!!!!!
Why did you have these? I'm a bit confused because it seems very sudden. You started good and then... BANG!

        will this help at all
Exercise does help one get into ketosis faster... but I'm a bit worried every time I see people who exercise because they feel guilty after a cheat. I am not saying exercising is a bad thing... I just don't think "guilt" is what should motivate one to exercise.

how long will it take me to get back into ketosis??
How long it will take depends on your metabolism. But being in ketosis is not the same thing as losing fat.

should I start induction again from scratch. have lost 7lbs this week will I gain it back from this??
You cannot start "from scratch". Day 1 is day 1... and after it's gone... bye bye. Get back on track, continue your Induction and decide on day 15 if you want to move to OWL or do Induction a little longer. Read Chapters 12 and 13 in DANDR 2002.

IT WON'T HELP YOU NOT TO CHEAT BUT IT WILL GET YOU MORE FIT AND BURN SOME OF THOSE EXTRA CALORIES

Not looking for sympathy at all, totally no I'm just letting myself down but want to know should I start induction again from scratch. have lost 7lbs this week will I gain it back from this??

I WOULD SAY, NO, JUST FINISH OUT YOUR INDUCTION CLEANLY FROM HERE ON OUT

          Please help need advice!!!!

OKAY HERE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART. WHY DID YOU SLIP? WAS IT BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T WANT TO MISS OUT ON THOSE FRIES OR WAS IT BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T FEEL LIKE YOU WERE CELEBRATING WITHOUT SOME 'FUN' FOOD? THESE ARE QUESTIONS YOU NEED TO ANSWER BECAUSE THIS SITUATION WILL COME UP AGAIN. IF YOU STRAY EVERY TIME A CELEBRATION NIGHT COMES UP IT WON'T BE LONG BEFORE YOU LEAVE COMPLETELY AND REGAIN THE WEIGHT.

IF IT IS BECAUSE CELEBRATIONS ARE TIED UP WITH FOOD, YOU NEED TO START ACTIVELY THINKING OF OTHER WAYS TO CHOOSE TO REWARD YOURSELF. LIKEWISE IF YOU VIEW THE EXERCISE AS A PUNISHMENT FOR EATING YOU AREN'T LOOKING AT EXERCISE IN THE RIGHT WAY EITHER (ALTHOUGH A GUILT WORKOUT ONCE IN AWHILE CAN BE A GOOD THING).

INSTEAD OF CELEBRATING WITH FOOD YOU NEED TO GET IN YOUR HEAD AN ATTITUDE OF: "I am celebrating getting my license AND I am also celebrating getting thinner and healthier". Celebrate your success every chance you can--it help keep you motivated

You need to give this plan 3 months without any straying at all to break these bad habits. If you do that the entire journey will be easier. If you keep straying, even occasionally, you never rid yourself of these bad habits. That makes long term success much harder.

I feel such a failure have only done 1 week of induction, today was the 1st day of the 2nd week.

Maybe next time you go out, bring an Induction friendly dessert. I eat out with friends and family a lot, and get together with my extended family often for pot luck meals. There is always dessert ordered or brought to the family dinners. I just bring a serving of "Clouds". Two weeks ago I made a low carb cheesecake. Sugarless and crustless.

Went to Chili's Sunday for my sister's birthday, and when the desserts came, I pulled my clouds out of my purse (they were in a little plastic container) and joined them!

This also stops my family from feeling sorry for me, or feeling guilty that they have dessert and I don't. They are still trying to adjust to me ---sitting at the table eating salads, chicken, etc, ---while they eat a pizza. And they still can't figure out how I am not tempted to eat the pizza!

              Re: Ive slipped again!!! Help!!!

I can't quote where in the book it says it because I don't have it infront of me so Dr. Atkins says how he will teach us when we slip to get back on track. It isn't abnormal to slip up the point is don't give up. Figure out what triggered it, what you can do differently so that it won't happen again. Just keep moving forward and don't let the slip ups mean failure.

              highest weight 360lbs
              started atkins 315lbs
              current weight 295lbs
              first mini goal 275
              second goal 250

              Induction started Sept 30/09

Going to succeed, one day at a time!!!!!!!

                Re: Ive slipped again!!! Help!!!

                Thanks for all your comments,

I guess my problem is that every celebration in my family and with friends too since I was young is celebrated with food!!!

and yesterday I just got caught up in old habits and didn't realise what I'd done til I'd done it -If that makes sense??

I think I may have used the wrong word (Guilt) I didn't excercise because I was guilty of course when I realised I had strayed I felt like banging my head against a brick wall as I was doing so well, but the excercise I guess I would have done anyway, started the regime last week to get more active, but after the restaurant last night considered not going - but straight away had to snap out of it and get to the gym.

Don't get me wrong I don't excercise out of guilt although I know it will help shift the weight and probably did work out harder than normal yesterday to try and burn off what I ate, but I love excercising I was a professional dancer and cheerleader up until 2 years ago when I had my baby, but never got back into it due to having post partum depression (which is how I gained alot of weight!!!)

Now that I'm better, I'm loving the fact I'm getting fit and healthy again and back to the old me! but I guess 2 years of terrible junk food eating habits are hard to break! but I will do it!!!! today has been a good day and I am back on track!

the homemade dessert idea sounds great will definately be doing that next time!!!

thanks again guys for the advice and comments.

                    Re: Ive slipped again!!! Help!!!

At 23 years of age, there is no time like the present to change expectations around celebrations with your family. They aren't going to do it for you and you have to learn to make healthier choices. You don't necessarily have to avoid celebrations ... you just have to have a plan for how you will handle it next time.

Your body will be in ketosis when it is in ketosis. When you stick with Atkins the way it is written rather than try the rollercoaster approach to Atkins, you won't have to worry about ketosis.

When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.
