  • a Day 10 Oops!

    Hi again all,

    Day 11 today.
Been doing well, drinking loads of water.
Typically I eat a grilled steak with mushrooms, a few green leaves or broccoli for dinner. Eggs and bacon for breakfast with a coffee and cream, cheese and beef sausage, celery and some cream cheese for snacks. Sugar free jello is dessert.

I feel I've done well ...staying within the guidelines, checking labels, sticking to induction foods. I've lost about 5 pounds.

Fitday tells me... 1,581 calories, Fat 71% Carbs 4% Protein 25% Daily Averages.

I messed up yesterday. Someone gave me a Reeses Peanut Butter Cup candy bar at work and I stuck it in my pocket. I forget about it until late last night. I really wanted to eat it so I ate half and tossed the other half down the disposal. It was GOOD!

It could be the season with all the Halloween candy around. I actually have a bowl of bite-sized candy in the living room...been there for weeks...it's for the kids but I haven't touched a one!!

I'll continue on with the induction phase but unsure if this is a serious set-back?

On the upside...I walked away from a beautiful piece of warm pumpkin pie with ice cream at my mother's...totally proud of that!!

Just continue on and don't stray again, but your veggie count looks awfully low. Most of your carbs should be coming from vegetables. Your percentages should be closer to 30% protein, 65% fat and 5% carbs so your menu needs a bit of tweaking.

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

You're right. The veggies are a bit low. Mostly been some broccoli, leaf lettuce, mushrooms, celery. I add butter to the 'shrooms and cream cheese to the celery. I did eat one avocado over the past 10 days but I'm not a big fan of those. I'll try to tweek the diet to those percentages and add more carbs via veggies.
        Thanks!!

I started at 164 and now about 159-158. I'm happy that I've lost that and don't want it to come back!!

Avocado does not count as a vegetable anyway; it's a fruit. It is listed among the Special Category Foods.

I don't think you should bother with the percentages too much. They are important for putting/keeping your body into ketosis (and during Induction, 65-5-30 is not carved in stone), but that's about it. They say nothing about how good your diet is. For example, 30% protein can mean
60 g protein if you eat 800 kcal
75 g protein if you eat 1000 kcal
112.5 g protein if you eat 1500 kcal
135 g protein if you eat 1800 kcal

It's not the percentages that matter so much, but the grams. If you do not eat enough nutrients (in grams), that can slow down your metabolism, cause loss of lean body mass, etc.

I started at 164 and now about 159-158.
The reason why I have asked for your weight is to see if your calories and protein are high enough. They look fine.
