  • Day 1- so scared to screw up

Today is day one of my induction phase. I have lost 20# in the last couple of months, but now i've decided to try the atkins approach. I am so scared of eating too much!! too much fat, too much protein.. I get the carb counting, i get the sugar thing...i GET it...I am just terrified that i am going to eat too much protein or too much fat. how much meat and eggs can i realistically eat? if i have 2 eggs with some added egg whites for breakfast with 5 pieces of bacon then i have tuna roll ups with lettuce for lunch, and then eat half a chicken for dinner with veggies and salad (olive oil, vinegar, 1tbsp splenda, salt & peper for the dressing).. i am going to lose weight??? it's hard to let go of the low fat diet..
so how much unprocessed meat can i eat in a day?

Eat when you are hungry. Stop eating when you are no longer hungry. Your body will tell you how much you need. It varies from day-to-day.

It's really hard to eat too much fat ... it's pretty self-limiting. On Induction, about 60-75% of your calories should come from fat.

While not impossible, overeating on protein isn't normally a problem when you're starting.

Make the focus of your eating the Induction vegetables ... and you will do fine.

Also ... make sure you're drinking all your WATER.

      >>t's hard to let go of the low fat diet..>>

Yes ... that was the hardest part of doing Atkins.

Make sure you read your Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002). If you understand the science behind Atkins, it makes it easier to accept that the fat isn't bad for you!

Don't worry. Cut the carbs and the rest will follow.
But make sure to eat your 3 cups of veggies. But eat them without the Splenda. You do not need to sweeten your vegetables. They have natural sugars in them. Let your tastebuds get used to natural sugar.
Make sure to drink at least 64 oz of water
        Start thinking about exercising.

Welcome. I think I had some starting anxiety too. But for me carbs are evil.

            CRY!!! OHHHH THE CHOCOLATE!!!

I've decided that I'm going to treat myself with a chocolate brown size 6 dress when this is all done, in homage to my lover, my former best friend.... Chocolate.

Re: Day 1- so scared to screw up

The first few days you may overeat. That's OK. Your body is adjusting. Then once the appetite is diminished as you detox, you won't feel as hungry.

Here's something to try to limit yourself: Eat half a meal and wait 20 mins. If you are still hungry eat a little more until you feel satiated-not all out full up. If in a couple of hours you are hungry, eat a snack. Then wait. The waiting is going to help you figure out if you are hungry or just want to eat. And you know you can stand 20 mins delay.

Don't worry about eating too much the first three or four days. Do what you have to do not to eat carbs.

                    Nope.

It was getting over the idea that eating fat was bad.

Of course, it really helped when I realized that eating "low fat" had made me fat.

Re: Day 1- so scared to screw up

Hi. kinda new here but just wanted to say that I totally agree with you!! I was so used to trying to eat low fat and low cal..but never lost any weight! Now I have to get used to eating so much more food! I love it..but its kind hard!
I am realizing that my body is not used to so much food cause I have gotten so used to counting calories and barely eating anything..I eat all my veggies to get the 12 to 15 carbs but then Im not eating enough protein..I eat all the protein then Im too full for the veggies....I was so used to eating toast and egg for breakfast. Smart one or lean cuisine for lunch. Some fast food or take out for dinner...Now its eggs and sausage or bacon for breakfast..then some protein and salad or veggies for lunch..then some kind of a veggie snack (to get the veggie carbs in) then more protein and more veggies for dinner..thats way more food then im used to.
The title of this thread is so up my alley..Im so scared to screw up cause I feel like Im not eating enough and that might not be good for my metabolism!!

I think after getting into Atkins, the research that you do shows for that every ounce of fat these companies leave out of something, they add hands full of sugar or HFCS..

                            Undereating is counterproductive on Atkins.

You might want to use FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal or All Things Food and Diet - FatSecret to track your eating. Then you'll know if you're getting enough calories along with the net carbs.

Also, you can start a new topic and post your menus ... we'll be glad to help.

I have been using fitday and am eating enough but I am just soooo full all the time!! It may be all the water I am drinking..
So question for ya.. Today is day 4 for me. Im down 4 lbs. I used the ketostix today for the first time and the reading was between small to moderate so I think I am in ketosis BUT besides the crazy headaches here and there I have not had any other symptoms. No bad breath or different smelling sweat or no crazy burst of energy..can one not have these symptoms and still be in ketosis?
