Ok, Sunday night I stepped on my scale and saw 256 displayed. So Monday morning I started on Atkins and the last two days I have been keeping my carbs around 15g a day. I checked the ketone strip today and it is still light pink...however; I stepped on the scale and now it says 248. 8 pounds in not even the first 3 days. I haven't seen any postings with those types of results....could that be right or do I need to invest in a new scale?

Personally I would really encourage you to measure yourself if you haven't already and stay away from the scale until the end of your two week induction period is over. Our bodies can flucuate so much in terms of weight from day to day that it can be frustrating for many of us which could lead to becoming discouraged. Honestly, the tape measure is your friend! I hated measuring myself that first time even more than having to see the numbers on the scale. But in terms of your question about the scale, I suppose you could weigh something that you know is correct. For example, if you have two five pound dumbells, you could put them on your scale evely and see if your scale reads ten pounds. Or something like that!

You do need to keep in mind that in the first 2 weeks, a majority of the weight you are losing is water. Your scales are probably correct. That is why in weeks 3-6, it will slow down considerably, if not stop all together until your body realizes that this way of eating and exercising is not a temporary thing.
Good job!!

Does it matter if your scales are broken? As long as over time, it tells you you are losing weight, then all you need to know is HOW MUCH you are losing, rather than what your start and finish weights are. When you go to get your blood test, check your weight then to make sure you are on track.30yo F 5'5 (166cm)
