    Hi there!

I started Atkins back in March and lost about 30 lbs in two months! It was soooo wonderful. I have PCOS so losing weight has been particularly hard for me, but Atkins works!! I wish someone had told me about this a long time ago.

Anyway, a long story short, I had to have throat surgery and went off Atkins. Thankfully, even though I have not been faithful to my Atkins diet for the past 6 months I have NOT gained any weight. I think the reason for this is that my eating patterns have changed significantly because I am more mindful of the carb count in everything.

I am back on board again. I have a Coca Cola addiction and am beginning induction again. Dr. Atkins recommends L-Carnitine to help increase fat metabolism and L-Glutamine to help with sugar cravings. I've had a really hard time kicking the Coke addiction. Prior to starting Atkins back in March, I used to drink 2 XL Cokes from McDonald's a day! (Not good). I have started drinking Coke again and know I am going to play heck getting off of it again. My goal for this week is to limit to one can a day. That's significantly less than I have been drinkings. Then I will go to one can every two days and so on.

Any tips or encouragement would be most appreciated.

L-carnitine will only help if you have a carnitine deficiency. Beef is a good natural source of carnitine.

      Stop buying the Coke.

Also, you have to DECIDE you're not going to drink it.

Plan on NOT drinking it at all ... instead of planning how much you will drink.

Thanks Georgiana! I must have a L-Carnitine deficiency because once I started taking it the weight started coming off quickly. Sure made a believer out of me!!

          Hi bwalters,

There is some suggestion that the addiction isn't actually to the coke but to the "fizzy" sensation, you could try having sparkiling water with lime in it instead of Coke. Just a thought.

          Good Luck

            Dear Mystic,

Wow! I think you are right about that!!! In general I don't have a problem staying away from sugar. I have noticed that by drinking Diet Rite with Splenda that it suppresses by urge for Coke....making me think that it is really the fizzy feeling my mouth is craving.

            thanks!!
