  • Day four...feeling bummed

Well don't the fact that is says I've lost 3 pounds fool you, I actually lost those before I "officially" started Adkins, I have been under 20 net carbs for 4 days now, and working out, usually run 3 miles 4-5 times a week...yet the scale doesn't budge.
I had one glass of Slender White (no carb no sugar) wine...I know alcohol burns first then fat...but really One glass! That is harsh.
I hope I'm not wasting my time. I was really looking forward to turning my body into a fat burning machine...but now I'm a little bummed and doubtful.

Wasting your time?? You got to eat somehow. I love eating time
I don't know if you are on Atkins. The rule is not under 20 carbs a day. The rule is eat veggies and a few other things but mostly veggies (for carbs) eat a lot of fat and eat enough calories.
Maybe if you are telling us what exactly you eat we can help you tinker with it a bit.
    How tall are you?
It will work. You have to do it right and you have to have patience. It is not a miracle diet. It is a different way of eating.

      No wine is no carb.

      Maybe you're not eating enough?

Why not post what you're eating and drinking ... and we can take a look.

        I am 5'5 1/2 "
Yes I have been sticking to the induction phase recommendations...veggies ect
this is exactly what I ate yesterday
coffee w sugar free creamer 1 nc
        adkins strawberry shake 1 nc
        mushroom omlette
        w/cheddar 3.5 nc
        sugar free gum 1 nc
        adkins adv bar 3 nc
        chef salad 8.5nc
        lettuce
        1/2 tomato
        cucumber
        crumbled blue cheese
        bacon
        turkey breast
        avacoado slices
        cauliflower
        radish
        alphalph sprouts
oh yeah...and my sleder white glass of wine mixed with mineral water

        That's roughly 18 nc....and not too many calories I don't think since I excercise.
And yes I do drink water...maybe not 64 oz but darn close.
I will measure water intake from now on to be sure.
any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong...other than being impatient

actually there is ...google it, I am still trying to figure out how this whole forum works...it's called Slender they make a white, rose and red. It has sweetener added zerose ??? sounds like a made up name to me but nonetheless the wine has zero carb, even though you would count that as one of the sweeteners we are allowed.

            >>sugar free creamer>>

This isn't Atkins friendly at all ... it does have sugar ... probably called corn syrup ... and may even have trans fats. What's the list of ingredients???

I would get rid of the Atkins products ... having two a day on Induction is most likely two too many. Atkins is about whole unprocessed foods.

            >> chef salad 8.5nc>>

Did you make this yourself or was it in a restaurant or store bought? How do you know it was 8.5 net carbs?

            >>yes I do drink water...maybe not 64 oz but darn close. >>

Darn close isn't good enough ... it's a rule of Atkins that 64 ounces is a minimum ... and 70 would be more in line with your minimum.

Not enough food (calories and/carbs) and not enough water are often counter-productive to losing.

The Atkins bars stall many ... so I would certainly eliminate those.

Also ... since you don't have much to lose, your rate of loss will be slow.

All wine has carbs ... it can't be 0.

The label can say that, but that doesn't make it true.

And ... thanks for mentioning the sweetener ... because you were over the limit on that!

I did make the salad myself...sounds good right?
okay well I will skip the "sugar free" creamer and use half and half.
thanks for the advice on the adkins products...just seemed convenient

                  Ahhh
The spirit of things Atkins is meat, fish, eggs, fats, salat veggies a lot of water.
What you are doing it a lot of phony products with sweeteners in them. That is not quite the Atkins diet.
If you look at those Atkins bars (they are made by a commerical company with teh right to brand their products ATkins. It does nto mean that they ARE Atkins, you will see that on the back of them it says 18 carbs or something like that. You will also see they contain illegal products compared to what is on the Atkins induction list.

Sweeteners are restricted to three a day
The fact that a product says 0 carbs does not mean it is legal. It does not even mean that it is zero carbs. If the serving sizes are small enough and carbs are under 0.5 they can legally claim zero on the label. But on this diet we have to watch this.

Does not look like enough fat in your diet or enough protein. You should eat plenty (atleast your BMI) and you should have 65% of your calories a day come from fat. So add some meat, fish, eggs, oil and butter to what you are eating.
Eat only 3 cups of veggies.
Cut out bars and pnony chemical products like creamers - use real cream.

And then you should be good
                  Drink lost of clean water
                  Take your multi vitamins/minerals
                  Enjoy yourself

                    Re: Day four...feeling bummed

I guess I will have be spend some more time preparing healthy snacks / breakfast that's when I want to turn to the bars/shakes. I'm not really a "breakfast" person until about 10am usually.

I will do better with the water...hopefully that will help

I am just sort of lost on what to snack on, used to be grapes or carrots or hummus with pita chips, none of which work for induction.

I know 20 lbs doesn't sound like much to lose but I have never been overwieght in my life until that last 2 years...and I feel like I am carrying so much extra baggage around, I have visible fat on my body in places that used to be smooth

I really want this to work so I will take ALL of your advice

thank you thank you thank you

yeah I wondered about that it says 19 carbs, 11 fiber on the back, so in my book that is 8 net carbs...but on the front is says only 3 net carbs...what the heck
Oh well they got my $$$ this time, but it won't happen again!!!

The bars aren't simple math of "total carbs minus fiber".

The math can't account for the gylcerine ... which isn't allowed by law to be included in the nutritional label.

You can trust the front of the product for the correct Net Atkins count ...

Half and half isn't legal on Induction.

                          Use real cream.

And ... do check the label on the "sugar free" cream to read the list of ingredients ... then you'll know why we're saying not to have it.

Nicnac, don't let yourself be discouraged. Everyone here has some really helpful tips as they all are experienced atkins folk. The only advice I have as I have been on Atkins 10 days now is to not weigh yourself every day. Choose one day of the week and do it then. I bet you will start to see the scale change at that point. Also, you are not a large person. Big losses come from big people. You weight may come off just a tad slower and that's not a bad thing. Hang in there friend!
