  • Cheat foods on Birthday??

My birthday is in a few days. I"m still on induction and was wondering if it would be wise to cheat ONE TIME on a dessert for my birthday. The dessert in question is tiramisu. I've almost made up my mind as a NO-GO for this. I'd hate to get out of the fat burning mode. That would really stink. In all honesty I'm looking for moral support here!!!! Thanks

    Happy upcoming birthday!!!

You don't need a "cheat" food to celebrate!

Why do you would want to feel awful because of eating tiramisu?

I "cheated" on day 12 of induction, it knocked me out of Ketosis and I don't feel that 6 days later I have recovered.... It wasn't with sweets - I just had many more carbs than I was supposed to at an appy party and am still paying for it.

It's your birthday - celebrate the fact that you are taking care of yourself and losing weight Have an induction friendly dessert!

A big steak juicy steak with a candle in the middle sounds like the perfect birthday food. I remember my first birthday on the diet (though it was about 8 months in) was a pile of Arby's roast beef with a candle in it.

            Re: Cheat foods on Birthday??

I think of it this way. What good can come out of cheating? The best thing that can happen is that it makes you feel like garbage and you stop losing weight for a few days, or maybe even gain a little weight. I say that’s the best thing because then maybe you decide it’s not worth it to cheat again. If you cheat and DON’T get an immediate bad reaction then that can potentially be a heck of a lot worse for you. I know from my own experience and a few years on this board that for many people if you let yourself cheat once for a good reason, you are more likely to let yourself cheat again for a bad reason.

Add to that the fact that you are on induction. This is the time when you are resetting your body and your eating habits. This is the phase that helps create the foundation for a healthy lifestyle change. Cheating now puts a crack in the foundation that may be hard to patch up later.

In my opinion….just not worth it.

You want to mess around with your progress for a few minutes of Tiramisu???

Yeah I love it too, but I sure would not mess up my progress for it. 5 minutes of Tiramisu to maybe take DAYS to FIX??? Plus, one cheat leads to two, and so on, and so on.

You can make a great tasty Atkins friendly cheesecake and stay on plan!

I made a cheesecake for my sister's birthday so I could have a dessert as well, and all the non Atkins people didn't even realize it was an "Atkin's recipe". They loved it!

Until I wake up one morning and start thinking I shouldn't have lost all this weight, I am not wasting my energy with cheats. It just isn't worth the work to get back on plan and have carbs beckoning to me.

my birthday is in a few days also....I'm having pumpkin desert with whipped cream...it's perfectly legal so I won't be out of keotsis. It's 1 day -- it's not worth "cheating" in my mind.

Withstand the cheat. You can do this. Try not to focus on it and find something you can have to look forward too. Go to a movie, go shopping, find a treat that won't involve you thinking about desert!

Before I'd do that I would do one of the desserts off of Linda's Low Carb website or from here... the easy low carb cheesecake is really quite good (enough so that I am making it for all the relatives on holidays this fall, even without a crust), the chocolate mug cake with splenda, whatever... any would be a better choice than cheating with tiramisu.

And I agree, 5 minutes or so of enjoying that one dessert is not worth days of trying to recover from that cheat. Find a good substitute that is legal and you will still enjoy it and also enjoy the fact that you stayed with it and didn't cheat.

                        Re: Cheat foods on Birthday??

The idea that it's ok to eat unhealthy foods and/or unhealthy portions on "special" occasions (birthdays, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.) is part of the reason that some of us are overweight in the first place.

I think a fantastic birthday present would be to lose an extra pound or two, because you deserve it!

Hope you have a wonderful birthday.

THANK YOU ALL FOR THE SUPPORT!!! I am going to make an Atkins dinner at home and try to make the Atkins cheesecake if I can find/get the recipe. Usually for my birthday we go out and eat PASTA & BREAD at an Italian restaurant! This year I will feel good the day after my b/day!

Here is an impossibly easy no-bake cheesecake recipe I have thrown together in no time flat - there are other fancier versions on this same website, but I thought this one was pretty nice and so very simple, 5 ingredients that you likely already have in the cabinet. . .

The slices are quite thin, but in my case that was a good thing since I didn't have many folks around to help me eat it.

                              Re: Cheat foods on Birthday??

Whether it would be wise depends upon the circumstances.

Do you expect to die sometime after your upcoming birthday but before the following birthday? Perhaps tiramisu will be eliminated from menus across the globe? How about an Extinction Level Event creating a short supply of ladyfingers?

If you answered yes to one or more of the above questions, then I would say that enjoying the tiramisu (in fact, any dessert you can get your hands upon) would be not only wise, but a moral imperative.

If, however, you have no immediate plans to shed your mortal coil, experience a worldwide menu revision or dodge a hot rock, then it's probably wiser to stay on plan.
