  • Oh no, I think I messed up!

Last night for dinner I made myself some steak fajitas and sauteed mushrooms. I ate an entire pound of baby bella/cremini mushrooms. (To be fair, it didn't look like much after they had cooked down.)

Anyway, this may sound weird but, my body feels like I cheated! I just don't have that fat-burning feeling that I usually have. I thought mushrooms were allowed on induction.

I am only a few pages into Dr. Atkins' book, so I haven't gotten that far yet. Also, I would check to see if I am still in ketosis, but I used my last test strip yesterday.

I really didn't want to mess up this time around. Any thoughts?

Edited to add: I also have not been partaking in any beverages other than water and decaf coffee with heavy cream and splenda. No diet sodas or Crystal Light.

Net carbs are limited to 20 g. You can check here how many net carbs (total carbs minus dietary fiber) are in the amount of mushrooms you ate.

    They are.

Ketosticks are not reliable. They don't tell you if you are following the plan correctly and their color is not a guarantee for weight loss. Also, you could be in ketosis without turning the sticks whatever color.

If you follow the plan correctly, you'll lose weight. That's what matters, not the color of a stick you peed on.

Don't panic for whatever happened yesterday, even if you went over your carbs (I'm not sure you did). You only ate mushrooms, not candy bars!

And plan next time, so that you know how many carbs you will consume... not how many you consumed.

I guess it depends what else you ate. Mushrooms are certainly allowed, but it seems excessive ?? 1 lb of mushrooms would be close to your entire veggie carbs for the day. Just get back on track and I'm sure you'll be back to 'fat burning' in no time.

Oops! I forgot the link. You can check the carbs here: http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/

          >>I ate an entire pound of baby bella/cremini mushrooms.>>

According to the link above, 1 pound would be about 19.48 total carbs and 2.7 fiber.

Jeepers...so I ate my entire carb allotment for the day in one meal. Nice.

Now you can see why planning ahead is better than planning behind.

In the book Atkins suggest measuring veggies in cups. One good thing about it may be that you will gain some portion control of carbs.
If you are not going to use cups you need to make sure you pre check veggies and weigh and stick to limits. I really think it is a good thing not to eat over 5 net carbs of each indiviual carb food item.

That would be about 120 grams by weight of the mushrooms (about 4 ounces) ... or 6 pieces.
