  • Day 3 on Induction

Its my third day of induction and I've been nauseous all morning. I could barely choke down breakfast (eggs and turkery bacon) and I just had a chicken salad for lunch and I wasn't able to finish it. On the plus side I've lost 5lbs. I've just read the weight is not linear thread and I'm going to try holding back on weighing myself until day 14.

I'm really proud of myself cause my mum did her annual goodies grocery shopping for the holidays where she buys, cookies, cake mix, sweet breads, chocolates etc to last until new years. I helped her carry and put away about 6 bags of pure carbs including my fave ginger snaps and watched my family eat some and I didn't have any or even convince my self that I needed a taste. They've been locked in the basement pantry at my request so I have no way of getting them and I can't see them.

My meals consist mainly of eggs, turkey bacon, chicken salad (lettuce or spinach, chicken breast, cheese, and bits of bacon and tomato). I'll adding fish later on this week.

My question is when does the peeing stop. For the past two nights I've either been peeing or dreaming about peeing and my office mates are starting to look at me funny cause I keeping running to bathroom.

Keep up the good work. The nauseous feeling is fairly typical and so is the peeing. Thats why the weight loss, (generally water the first week)
Do you like eggs and turkey bacon? Eat foods that you love as long as they are on the acceptable list.

Yup, I like turkey bacon and eggs, I bought some lemon herbal tea today and that's helped with the nausea

          Re: Day 3 on Induction

As Desertthorn said, nausea is relatively common during the first few days of Induction. It is likely caused by your body switching from a glucose (sugar) metabolism to lipolysis/ketosis. However, there are several things that might help. If you want to post a full menu, including quantities and net carbs for every food, we can take a look.

Are lettuce and tomato the only veggies you eat? In what amounts do you eat them?

How many net carbs have you been eating, on average? How many from vegetables?

How many calories have you been consuming for the past 3 days, on average? Undereating will likely lead to low blood sugar and nausea is often a symptom of it.

Try eating every 3-4 hours. Don't go for more than 6 without eating.

How much water are you drinking?

What percentage of your calories are coming from fat?

How much protein are you consuming (in grams)? Too much protein can make you feel nauseous. Too little can cause problems as well.

Are you eating low sodium? Are you taking a multivitamin & mineral supplement? The body is rapidly losing electrolytes during the first week or so of Atkins, and this can cause weakness and nausea. Unless you are sodium sensitive, broth might help, as it is rich in minerals (homemade is best; if you use store-bought, use the full sodium kind). For potassium, avocados are a good option.

            Congrats on the weight loss!

Make sure you add some variety to your menu or the boredom of eating the same thing could drive you to cheat.
