  • Can you drink Whey Protein during Induction?

I drink protein shakes that are generally low in carbs and was wondering if I can drink low carb whey protein shakes during the induction phase? The nutritional info is listed below. I generally use 2 scoops per shake and have 2 a day.

3 carbs per scoop and you use four scoops makes for 12 carbs a day. You are limited to 20 carbs and most of those have to be from vegetables. So the answer is that this will not work. It is also a lot of protein and virtually no fat. Atkins is a high fat diet.

You can look for whey isolate which would be lower in carbs and then reduce the amount and perhaps add some fat. I usually add some cream to my shakes.

Try and focus on whole foods and vegetables though. It is good stuff.

What kind of fat would you add to a meal with chicken? Is it ok to eat 80/20 Beef since it has more fat in it?

      Thanks,

creamy buttery sauces, splash of olive oil and garlic, pesto mayonnaise.

Don't feel like you have to choose a fatty meat to get your fat. Most of the time I eat chicken fillets and fish, but I use butter and cream and olive oil to create tasty sauces to up the fat content.

I like a pesto mayonnaise or a spicy chipotle mayo for chicken, Hollandaise for asparagus, Low Carb Bernaise for beef---there are all kinds of tasty possibilities and most are quite easy to make.

Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution (2002) --- very cool book!
