  • Some induction inquiries.....

Is it true that eggs have about 0.4 carbs in each?

    Do you count eggs?

What about splenda? (1 carb per teaspoon?)

Do you count the splenda in diet coke [how much is even IN a can?]

    ...so complex....

And......while in Induction, why can't I drink more than 2 cups of coffee?
What if I don't get cravings from it? Is that the reason behind that rule?

    ALSO....

I've been doing regular carbs, not net carbs. Is that okay?

Some days I only eat about 12 regular carbs....or 8, etc. But some days I eat, about 16. That's usually the max. It's worked...so I guess it's okay.

    .........i carry on.......

Depends how big the egg is. Check FitDay or the USDA database for carb counts.

    Do you count eggs?
    You count everything.

    What about splenda?
    You count it too.

Sweeteners are limited to 3 packets per day.

    1 carb per teaspoon?
If you're using granular Splenda, 1 teaspoon has 0.5 net carbs.

Do you count the splenda in diet coke
As a rule of thumb, each serving of diet soda (8 oz) should be counted as 1 serving of sweetener.

Diet Coke, as far as I know, is not sweetened with Splenda. But then I don't drink diet sodas, so I could be wrong...

    ...so complex....
You could make it simpler. You don't really need diet sodas, you know...

    Drinking water is best.

And......while in Induction, why can't I drink more than 2 cups of coffee?
Do you have a caffeine addiction?

What if I don't get cravings from it? Is that the reason behind that rule?
Cravings. And some people are stalled by it.

And being addicted to certain foods/drinks is not good anyway.

I've been doing regular carbs, not net carbs. Is that okay?
Depends what you mean by "okay". Fiber doesn't count. It's net carbs that do.

In my opinion, you are cheating yourself of nutrition by counting total carbs.

Some days I only eat about 12 regular carbs....or 8, etc. But some days I eat, about 16. That's usually the max.
It's undereating, in my opinion. Aim to eat close to 20 net carbs.

Add more vegetables there. The majority of your net carbs should come from vegetables.

    It's worked...
Because you've lost weight, you mean? Weight loss is not the only measure of one's success on Atkins. You need to learn healthy eating habits.

You can lose weight by eating nothing and drinking nothing but water. It doesn't mean it's "okay" though.

Please do yourself a favor and read the book.

What do you think about posting a complete menu and letting us take a look at it? We could make some suggestions starting from what you're already eating.

Thank you, okay I will post a menu sometime on here. I eat different things everyday. Lately I've been trying to have more veggies like spaghetti squash and asparagus is a popular one for me. I use olive oil with my eggs. Sometimes Ill eat a hot dog, but I feel like it's so much sodium, like pepperonis that it makes me retain water.

Lauren, you may want to start logging your food and exercise into fitday.com

It will help you keep track of the carbs. You simply subtract out the fiber grams to get the net carbs for the day--the carbs we count. It will also help you keep your calorie intake high enough and your fat content high enough (60-65%)
