  • Gaining weight!

    My period is missing and I'm on day 11th of induction,I lost nothing and gained 7lbs ,I've feel bloated for 2 weeks ,but my period has not come yet.
    I actually started induction on 20/10,but i screwed up and restarted on 18/11,I really stick on the rules,but ketosis not happened on me till 2 days ago,it is on and off,I cant see myself in the process of ketosis everyday.
    I dunno what to do,all my effort juts gave me extra pounds.maybe this diet just not works on me,maybe i have to take diet pill to control my appetite and do low calorie/low fat diet instead for the rest of my life.

    I assume you are using ketosticks...

    As you were told before, you can be in ketosis without ever changing the color of the sticks. And a color change does not guarantee weight loss.

    In my opinion, ketosticks are just a waste of money. Focus on following the plan and stop peeing on sticks.

    If you want to post a complete menu with quantities and net carbs for all foods, we can take a look. Please create a new thread for this though, so that we avoid confusion here.

        Gaining weight!

        I'm 31,158cm,and 200lb.
        My period is missing for 2 weeks,I'm so bloated,what's wrong with me??
        I want my cycle back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
        I'm kind of regret by doing the Atkins,cuz I lost nothing but gaining 7lbs,I just wonder if the diet affects my cycle,why I cant see myself shrinking?and why ketosis only happen sometimes but not everyday?
        I dont know what to do now,should I just back to my regular low fat/low calorie diet or keep going?

        I'm eating 1700-1900kcal since I've started Atkins,I used to eat 1200kcal every day,I go hiking 4-5 times a week,1.5/hrs each time,am I eating too much calorie?

        I was 100% agree with Dr.Atkins theory when I first started the diet,but now I'm confused.

            Please post your menu. It's difficult to "troubleshoot" without one.

            Ketosis happens every day. Everyone, not only people following a low carb diet, is in ketosis during night. But, hopefully, no one pees on ketosticks while sleeping.

            Why don't ketosticks change color every time you pee on them? Because they only measure the concentration of excess acetoacetate (one of the three ketones our body makes) spilled over into urine. In the body, acetoacetate can be used for energy or converted into acetone (another ketone that doesn't show on the sticks). If there is no excess acetoacetate left at moment when you pee on the ketostick, the color won't change. However, it does not mean you are not in ketosis, because your body is still running on a fat metabolism. There simply is no excess acetoacetate.

            And you could change the color of the sticks in every color of the rainbow and still not lose weight.

            Ketosticks are not reliable. It's what you eat that matters, not the color on the sticks.

            No, you are not overeating. Your BMR is around 1700 kcal. Most people can eat a few hundred calories above their BMR and still lose weight. If you exercise regularly, you will need even more food.

                I usually drink around 1.8L-2L of water a day.
                I keep track of my menu everyday,here it is.

                18/11-Day 1

                B:cucumber 200g/3 eggs/fresh pork sausage
                decaff coffee/cream 1tbsp/splenda

                L: 2 eggs/baked chicken breast(only with salt and pepper)

                D:Lettuce/broccoli/real bacon bits salad with Olive & vinegar dressing
                cheese 80g

                19/11 Day 2

                B: Homel corned beef omelette with 3 eggs
                decaff coffee with 1tbsp cream/splenda
                L:Backed chicken wings/salmon
                D:Mixed greens 250g/Cheese,Beef slices

                20/11 Day 3
                B:chicken breast/3 eggs/mayonnaise/lettuce
                decaff coffee/splenda/1tbsp cream
                L:9 Baked chicken wings
                D:Mixed greens/mayonnaise/4 chicken wings

                I've eaten a lot of baked chicken wings last 11days,with mayonnaise,mustard,pepper and salt,I didn't use anything out of the list.
                One thing I wanna mention is,I have severe PMS,I feel so hungry before my period come,in the past 11 days,there were 4 days I consumed around 2400kcal(i ate a lot of chicken),rest of the day I eat around 1700-1900kcal.

                I read the DADNR,it says it is ok to eat up to 4oz of cheese,so sometime I eat 3oz of cheese also 5-6 eggs a day.

                  I know my appetite is related with the PMS,I feel so hungry last week even most ppl say the diet help u control your appetite.I know my appetite will go down if my period 'show up',but the problem is when????

                    I have severe PMS since teenager.I can eat a whole cow before period.

                      That's not enough water. 64 oz is a minimum set by Dr. Atkins, but anecdotal evidence shows that most people do best drinking more than that... and the more one weighs, the more water one needs to drink.

                      I'd aim for 100 oz, since you weigh 200 lbs.

                      Too much salt could cause bloating. So could too much meat.

                      Could you edit your post and write net carbs and quantities for all foods?

                          wow buddymama, I really feel for your dilemma!
                          Sounds like youre trying real hard to get into induction mode and youre not seeing any pay offs.

                          I was like you, I got into induction, even had good purple on the ketosticks and then never lost weight. It wasnt until I went up the OWL rungs that it all started happening. Whatever happens dont lose heart, stick with it and keep progressing, who knows whats happening, maybe youre gaining some lean muscle mass thats registering on the scales.

                          In any case the people here will continue to support you and provide answers. Keep your eye on the long goal and stick with it!

                            It's a bad choice, in my opinion. There's sugar in it... and a lot of sodium. Too much sodium could cause water retention/bloating.

                              PMS really can mess things up so I would just keep plugging away until you get through it.
