  • Cravings and Appetite

I am about halfway into induction and I have shocked on how much my appetite has gone down and cravings have went away. This is probably the 1st time in my life that my blood sugar levels have been in tune. I feel great and have more energy.

My only regret about Atkins is that I didn't start sooner!

Just remember that when people start telling you how "unhealthy" Atkins is....this is the biggest plus I can tell people!

            Re: Cravings and Appetite

After years on Atkins, I'm still asked my others if I plan to "eat normally" sometime soon. Mostly this comes from work associates who are very aware of my careful choices in social situations and it seems to make them more uncomfortable than it does either me or restaurant staff when I ask questions about ingredients, etc..

Recently, after a evening out, several colleagues were miserable. We had a big event and they complained all day about feeling lousy. For me, this is about feeling good and being healthy and not being controlled by cravings.

              Re: Cravings and Appetite

I always find this appetite lowering thing cool.
Some of the people around me really find it a bit uncool that I eat the way I do and hint at it. But when we go to a restaurant together and they order their typical meal (huge servings of protein and then loads of carbs to go with it) it amazes me that they can eat all that. I usually eat far less protein and a tiny bit of carb and I am stuffed. But there probably was a time when I could down those huge portions. I just don't eat that much in a meal anymore.

No matter what they say they won't be able to convince me that anything that helps me not be obese is "unhealthy".

All of a sudden I have started to get cravings and my appetite is up. I have stay to 20g or less of carbs a day (usually less). Pretty much 3 meals and a ton of water. I haven't changed anything. Any ideas?

                    Are those net carbs?

How many calories are you consuming?

What fraction of your calories comes from fat?

Did you start eating a food you were not eating before?

If you want to post a complete menu, with quantities and net carbs, we can take a look.

                      Re: Cravings and Appetite

I think maybe it was cause I had been skipping breakfast.

Yeah net carbs, no new foods. I'm not sure about the calories but this is a typical menu for me.

2 eggs and turkey bacon or sausage patty for breakfast.

2 chicken breasts for lunch. (with 1 carb ketchup)

Baked fish / a steak / pork chops and green beans or broccoli for dinner.

I have been sticking to that pretty much everyday. I might have a piece of cheddar cheese as a snack or a few pork skins.

Maybe you need some varity. Check out some recipes.
2 chicken breasts for lunch - my take on chicken breasts is that they are for dogs. Humans need to eat chicken legs - something with fat in them. If breast are your choice - eat lots of fat - not ketchup with it.

Did I mention fat? It is the secret of this diet. Not well hidden. most of your daily calories should come from fat.

Use FitDay to check your calories. You might be undereating.

                          green beans or broccoli
You didn't write quantities, but only one meal with vegetables probably does not give you enough net carbs. Eat a variety of vegetables and spread them throughout the day. Not eating all your veggie carbs in a meal will help you avoid blood sugar spikes.

I agree with Liv that there seems to be too much protein in your menu. Protein should be only 25-30% of your total calories (FitDay will tell you the percentages). Undereating fat can make your feel hungry.
