Ok, just to give you some of my info:

My name is Jonathan. I'm from Ireland. Currently weight a staggering 266 pounds(19 stone). The thing is I used to be slim and attractive but have become a compulsive overeater over the last year due to stress, money and relationship problems and general low self-esteem. Also in my final year of college and turn to food at the first sign of stress

I have put on around 60 pounds and even gained lots of horrible stretch marks.....Don't know if everyone wants to hear about this kinda thing but hear it is none the less. I have absolutely no motivation and need all the help I can get.

Thanks in advance guys and gals,

    JayJay )

          Welcome!
Talk about whatever you need to talk about...!! Like Iyshiaf says: stretch marks, potty problems of all descriptions (My favourite is "Why is my pee neon yellow!??" [it's the B vitamins in your supplement, btw])and you can even join us in the CoolRunnings topic in Exercise where I've asked about whether other runners blow their noses, or spit or just sniff and swallow :yikes lol

The point to this is that it's very comforting to know that we are not alone in all of this, and that others have had similar experiences. :yes

All the best to you! :wave

Have you read THE BOOK? Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution....now *there's* motivation.

Start with that. Read it thoroughly .. maybe even more than once. Then plan your strategy. MOTIVATION HAS TO COME FROM YOU. We can cheer you on, but YOU GOTTA WANT IT.

And believe me, if I can succeed, YOU CAN TOO!! I was a bonafide couch potato at mid-life .. hypothyroid, on estrogen...had every excuse in the book for just 'aging gracefully' ... well okay, let's just say I was fat and lazy, shall we??

That was in 2001. I picked up a copy of DANDR in January 2002 and it totally and radically forever changed my life. I've lost 40 pounds, kept it off for 3 years and I run 30+ miles a week now.

So, the point is, YOU CAN DO IT TOO!!

Just get the book and get started. We're here to cheer you all the way!

Of course you can, just pick up the book Dr Atkins New Diet revolution 2002 edition and you will be armed and dangerous! lol Please don't try to do it without reading the book, it almost always spells failure.

I have the book and have read a lot of it but not all of it.....

I remember I did feel inspired after reading it and stayed on atkins for a week losing nearly a stone....then just fell back to my old habits...

I think your right though re-reading the book would be a goof first step

                  Thanks :yes

                    Hi Jay,

You cannot only get back to your old weight you can transform and reinvent yourself on every level.

This is my second time on Atkins - the first time I lost over forty pounds but drifted off course, gained the forty back and an additional thirty. So this time I'm back with a fervor and a determination to succeed.

Since starting Atkins on 2/22/05 my gastric reflux has vanished along with my chronic insomnia, I'm walking three miles a day and smoked my last cigarette of twenty-five year three pack a day habit on 3/18/05 - and I owe it all to Atkins.

So if you ask me the weightloss is just an extra perk you pick up along the way, as you continue to reinvent yourself on Atkins.

You'll find that your self esteem isn't gone, nor is your confidence. All those things, those parts of you are still there you're just not seeing them looking back at you in the mirror. But trust me, those days will change and before long this time in your life of feeling unhappy, out of shape or even despair will be a memory.

All you have to do is follow the plan - that's it. Make sure you have the current 2002 copy of "Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution" do a by the book induction and make a commitment to yourself to succeed and you're half way home.

All of us, as different as we may be came to this WOL (way of life) for similar reasons and not one of us came here because we were feeling great about our weight, our bodies and ourselves. So never hesitate to share your thoughts or ask for help when you need it.

                    Peter ha

There's the question I was afraid to ask. I've also noticed a neon green on rare occasions. This diet is kind of like being pregnant, though. Weird things are happening, and sometimes you just gotta shrug and walk away. (after flushing and washing your hands of course)
I'm 26 years old, and I lost weight on this plan in 2005. I'm getting married in August and thought this would be the way to go after making little progress on other diets. I've got 20 lbs to lose for the big day!

hi, Jay Jay, like you I am over weight due to comfort eating when I am stressed, having come to terms with a lot of child hood trauma I am now on the mend and this includes sorting out my figure and my diet, if you want to share ideas with me i will also be glad of the advice and a buddy to help me along, I am not a person who gives up without a dammed hard try so lets do this together. I struggle on what things to eat and what to dring instead of water, this site is great for sharing information and should help us reach our goals. I want to be back to a size 10/12 not a 16. we can share ideas and advice if its ok with you.
