  • Day 4 in intro

    Hi everyone,
I am day 4 in the intro phase and I must say that it has been pretty hard but I am sticking to it. One thing I am not to sure on is the salad dressings are we able to have that in the beginning?

    Re: Day 4 in intro

I've been sticking to blue cheese dressing based on the amount of carbs. It is hard in the beginning but the longer you stick with it, the easier it gets. I'm actually at a point now, at almost three weeks, that I'm not hungry at all. Stick with it, you'll do great

Yes. This is discussed in your copy of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002).

        Welcome Honeybee
        Nice to have you here.
Day four is good. Just keep going. It really does get easier and seeing the pounds come off is extra motivation.
If you want to join our December Challenge - set some goals for December and jump in. That may be great motivation too.

Salad Dressings - Atkins says they are OK as long as they are without sugar and have no more than tow parbs per tablespoons. He suggests using oil and vinegar though. That is what I used. And I sometimes use mayo. You can make your own dressings too. Lots of options there.

So what are you struggling most with? Maybe we can help?

              That's mostly aimed for Pre-Maintenance/Maintenance.

For weight loss, DANDR 2002 is what you want.

right now I am having a real hard time making different things to eat
Why? Do you need some low carb recipes?

It's good that you know the pattern. Now plan what you're going to do this weekend, so that you don't "fall off the boat". Maybe try some new recipes to jazz up your menu.

I really want to reach my goal by March
Deadlines on weight loss usually lead to disappointment. Focus on following Atkins correctly. Weight loss will come, but you cannot control your weight loss rate.

Correct - stay away from that sausage.

Also - for a nice, legal salad dressing, I like a basic Greek dressing - 3 parts olive oil, 1 part lemon juice with oregano, salt and pepper to taste. Very tasty and no added sugar (which is found in many commercial dressings).

No, it's not normal... but it is relatively common during Induction.

How many net carbs from vegetables are you eating?

How many grams of dietary fiber?

Supplementing your diet with fiber will help. You can use flax meal. Make sure you drink extra water with it, or it might have the opposite effect.

                        Exercise helps too.

How much water are you drinking?

                          This might help:

SINCE BEGINNING ATKINS I AM OFTEN CONSTIPATED. HOW CAN I AVOID THIS?

Some constipation is common during the first week of the Induction phase. This is due to the change in overall diet and especially the reduced amount of fruit and vegetable fiber. Be sure you are taking in at least 3 cups of salad vegetables and not using your carb allotment on other foods. After the first few days, your body should adjust and constipation shouldn't be a problem. And when you begin to add carbohydrates, your first choices should be more vegetables, followed by berries.

If constipation continues, there are several remedies. First, make sure you are drinking eight 8-ounce glasses of water each day. Inadequate hydration is the main reason for constipation. Most people, especially women, don't drink enough water and are slightly dehydrated almost always. Second, sprinkle 2 tablespoons of wheat or oat bran fiber on salads or mix in protein drinks. The amount needed to stay regular varies from person to person. It may take a few days to find the amount that works for you.

Finally, increasing physical activity often helps.

Aim for at least 12 net carbs from vegetables and choose vegetables high in fiber.

Avocado is a good source of dietary fiber too. You can have 1/2 per day during Induction.
