  • Bacon issues

    Hi there,

I have found that regular bacon of any type has sugar as one of the ingredients.
The problem I now have is that "sugar free" bacon is VERY expensive here in SA and there is no way I can afford it, it's more than double the price of normal bacon.
Will the amount of sugar in the normal bacon cause hassles for me if I have 1x250g packet a week?

I have been so good over the last 23 days, I have not cheated one single time on anything at all which is huge for me, I don't want to mess it up now with the bacon.

What other alternatives do you learned peeps suggest.

    Cheers,
    Stuart

Stuart, I face similar problems here in China. Those of us who are geographically challenged sometimes have to make less than ideal choices. For me, having the bacon makes the eggs edible. I still miss toast after all this time so I have decided that the sugar that is likely in my bacon is a fair trade off. I don't eat a lot and I limit it to a few times a week, but still its there. My progress is slow for a variety of reasons and I am sure this doesn't help, but if I didn't have my bacon to go with the eggs I know I would probably end up cheating in worse ways since the boredom would get to me.

        Re: Bacon issues

I found sausage with no sugar or additives and tend to eat that most of the time. I buy whatever bacon is on sale when I want it...which is maybe once a month (and my kids eat at least half of it).
All I can suggest is to try it and see how you do. When I have had bacon, it doesn't seem to bother me or effect my loss. Sorry I am not more help.

Well sugar is not great but lots of fat and protein in bacon to neutralize the effects.
Read the label and find one with zero carb listed so at least you know there is not a lot of sugar per serving. (Zero carb usually does not mean zero but something under 0.5)
I use non sugared bacon because I can find it. It is just a tad more expensive that the sugared kind.

I certainly pay more for bacon now than I used to...but I eat less of it at once. I used to eat 4-5 slices, now I have one or two, so paying more for the package doesn't hurt as much. This WOE can be expensive, but I find I am saving so much money on drive-thrus, fast-food lunches and sugary snacks that it makes up for paying more for some better quality items.

              Hi Charlotte,

Thanks for the reply, as of Monday 30 Nov, I have lost 11lbs in 18 days which isn't a huge amount but I have lost nearly 6" and I feel absolutely great.
The benefits of this WOE far outweigh any other factors, just hang in there, drink your 64oz of pure water, take your vitamins, exercise and stick to the plan, it pays off and you will succeed, I'm rooting for you all they way!!!

              Cheers,
              Stuart

                Hey Jill,

I must say that I miss toast too, especially when I make breakfast for my sons, but the perseverance is strong and I resist
I think I'll try the normal bacon once a week and see if it has any adverse effect, suppose it's the only way to tell, will it take me out of ketosis though?
Hang in there and be strong in the land of rice

                Hey there,
Thanks for the reply, your info is most helpful and I will give it a bash, no harm in trying and gaining a bit more info
                Have a great day!!

                Hey Liv,

Thanks for the hint on the carbs, I didn't think to check that, will do so today.
Hope you have a great weekend

                Hey Julie,

I can only agree with your comment on the fast-food saving, we were spending far too much on that in a month, now the kids get fast food once a month (which I avoid, I get a roast chicken to eat over 2 days instead ).
Meat wise this WOE is more expensive than before but what price do I put on my health and survival? If I stayed as I was I would have ended up having a heart attack or worse, so Long Live Atkins!!

                Cheers,
