Hey guys, I can not seem to find the ketostix for the life of me. I have seen blood/glucose tests and walgreens behind the counter. My mom has this digital dibetic test at home she no longer uses. If those strips are suppose to be a replacement for this digitial test, can I use this freestyle lite digital test to determine if I am in ketosis ? Thanks Guys, I have lost a lot of weight on atkins before and didnt even bother writing stuff down or pay close attention tot he book. I would eat meat, pat attention to the sauces and eat sugar free jellow/candy for desert. Alcohol in diet sodas, and it worked out great, lost 60 lbs in 6 months, and I am not obeses, I was 200 lbs for a 5 9 frame.. (im a guy_) but its not workin so well this time around so I want to see if I am even in ketosis ? I know I have stayed below20g p day, and i am eating the same foods that I ate before..

And if you are drinking alcohol the test strips or other ways of measuring ketones will not help you tell if you are in ketosis.
They will measure the acetones given off by processing the alcohol as a preferred fuel and show the same results as if you were spilling ketones into your urine, and give you a false positive reading!!
Also while your body is running on alcohol it will not have any need to start burning fat

just got the strips and tested. Got a pinkish color, doesnt make sense. Been on atkins 8 days, havent come close to breaks or cheating, stayed well below 20 g, ate what i ate when i first did atkins (tandoori chicken and Kababs) checked the igredients on those, tonday paste has 6 gm cabs for the entire batch and the kebaabs had 3 g of carbs in the spices for the batch. I drank, with alcohol in diet soda which is known to postpone not kick u out of ketosis ? Eggs, cheese, sugar free soda, and for the first time sugar free candy and jello yesterday.....
again I have lost 60 lbs just like this before, Id dint even bother taking the steps to reincorporating carbs back in my life, just had a low card diet, 20-30 gm of carbs from where ever the source.... i havent had a drink in like 3 days.

Atkins is not only about eating "below 20 g". You are not following Atkins correctly.Been on atkins 8 days, havent come close to breaks or cheating, stayed well below 20 g
Well, you see how well that worked for making Atkins a lifestyle. And you see how well it works now for losing weight.ate what i ate when i first did atkins
You might want to do things correctly this time.
However you want to call it, you are not burning primarily fat while your body is metabolizing alcohol.I drank, with alcohol in diet soda which is known to postpone not kick u out of ketosis ?
And alcohol is not allowed during Induction.

every time you drink alcohal give your body atleast 4 days before you expect to see some weight loss again
theres 2 main metabolisms
glucose burning metabolism aka posion burning metabolism = you been eating to many bad carbs
fat burning metabolism = good
then theres the other metabolisms
alcohal burning metabolism aka posion burning metabolism = you have drank to much alcohal you will not burn any fat till your alcohal is burned off and your body switchs back to a fat burning metabolism i think could take a good 4 days to switch back and forth
if you combo alcohal with bad carbohydrates your in big trouble you will go into a alcohal burning metabolism and not a glucose burning metabolism and your body will be forced to store that entire toxic blood sugar spike for the bad carbs as fat!

I know I am not doing atkins, I am low carb, or resembling as close to atkins as possible. I am more of a OGW phase of atkins, stuck to the 20 gm carbs perm.. not worrying about incorporating things back in and longer term on the program. I just want a quick way to lose 30 lbs or so to get me motivated to just eat healty and excercise. Right now I feel like Im alreayd chubby, whats another day of doing what I want. I dont have any disorders or anything. I am 35 lbs over weight and its because I decided to eat IHOP and DOritos after drinking and mcdonalds out of pure laziness, not incontrollable appetite. So, I just need a boast to get to a point where I care about how i look again and in the past this very method, low carb by which ever means possible, and lose weight.
P.S I do not think its fair for ppl to say that since i didnt follow the book correctly I am in the situation I am. There are many people that did things by the book, stoped and got all that weight back, thats what happened to me as well, nothing diff, has nothing to do with following the boook or not. I dieted and then i stoped. Just like anyone else on the atkins that gained the weight back.

I am just one of the many people who read and understood the book, ate and exercised by the book, stopped, and gained weight back.
Just so that is clear that I was not "on the atkins" when I gained. I failed, not the Atkins approach. I should have never stopped for any reason. If I stop today, I will stop losing weight and gain back weight, as with any plan. I read the book again and continue to use it for reference. It is working for me again.
And as you see for yourself, you can't eat SF candy, pop, alcohol, so dump them no matter what plan you choose to follow. Measure your veggies. Read the book, start with the 14 day Induction. I lost my first 37 pounds in 6 weeks and kept it off for a long time. Read the book and you will be on your way.
