Just can't seem to get in 20 net carbs...

  • Just can't seem to get in 20 net carbs...

    Hi All! Hope you all had a great day.
    Anyways, I just can't seem to get in my 20 net carbs a day.
    I have been on Induction for 4 (almost 5) days now and here are my totals for each day in NET carbs-
    Started the 10th- 15.08 (9.21 were from veggies and 5.87 from others)
    11th- 13.80 (6.8 were from veggies and 7 from others, I know my veggies are supposed to be high, I ate too many eggs that day.)
    12th- 17.02 (9.50 from veggies and 7.52 from others)
    13th- 15.97 (9.7 from veggies and 6.27 from others)

    In my notebook where I keep all the things I eat and the net carbs, at the end of each day & page I write down:
    Net Carbs from veggies-
    Others-
    TOTAL-
    That way I know if I am getting most of my carbs from veggies. I know that you are supposed to eat 12 to 15 net carbs from veggies a day, but it seems hard for me to get that many. I do measure religiously and I might have an extra celery stick (or two), after I have had my 2 + 1 cups of veggies a day, for snacks but it still doesn't equal a lot.
    Just wondering if there are any suggestions on what I could do to boost my veggie carbs up a little?
    And btw, on 2 of those days, I did eat half of an avocado with my salad to try to boost it up but it didn't work that much.

    it seems hard for me to get that many
    Are you eating only vegetables super low in carbs (like celery) or do you also eat higher carb ones? Vegetables like pumpkin, Brussels sprouts, jicama, yellow/red peppers can quickly increase your net carbs.

    Also, many vegetables reduce their volume when cooked, so that you don't have to eat a mountain of them.

    Well, there are two schools of thought: those who go by 3 cups (3 or 2+1) and those who ignore the cups and count only net carbs. My advice would be to count net carbs. I think it is less important whether the veggies you eat fit in 3 cups, or 2 or 6.

    Avocado is a "Special Category" food though, not a vegetable.

      <y veggie carbs tend to be lower when I am eating more lettuce and less green beans, broccoli, asparagus and other veggies. If you have been relying on salads, you may want to add more substantial veggies or just plain add more and ditch the three cups rule. If you are too full to add more veg, then I would definitely try to add more of the higher carb veggies to your salads to up things--but remember you don't have to meet 20 carbs. Anywhere between 15 and 20 would be fine.

        As some of us read the book it is not important to get 20 carbs in but it is important to get in three cups and it is important that most of your carbs come from veggies. The ANA website says 12-15 carbs of veggies the book does not say there is a particular number you have to reach.
        But nothing wrong by trying to get used to eating lots of veggies. It is part of how you will be eating for life when on Atkins. Very slimming stuff.

          Hi Georgiana! - I eat leaf lettuce, roma tomato, cucumber, mushrooms, zucchini, and celery for my veggies. Thank you so much for listing the other veggies that are higher in carbs so I can get closer to 20 per day.

          Hi chinadoll - I do get full rather quickly since I started Atkins. Sometimes I don't want to eat at all, so it would be best for me to get some higher carb veggies to keep around. Will def get some!

          Hi liv - I think I may already be used to eating lots of veggies. I am just not eating some of the "higher carbs" one, I guess you could say. I have never loved veggies so much as I do now since I started Atkins it is great!
