  • Snacks

I am very used to snacking throughout the day. It's so hard for me to keep to atkins because I will stop snacking and after few days I'll start binge eating.
What are some snacks I can eat throughout the day without adding on the carbs?
I tried munching on cheese it didn't really work. More of a sugar person I guess. Help!

    Re: Snacks

I snacked all day on sugar and I got fat.
    Not a great plan
When I started Atkins I wanted to limit snacking because it really was a problem for me. So I ate good meals and drank a lot of water between meals. I had water bottles all over and no readily available snacks. It has helped me get rid of (at least to some extent) a bad habit.

But that all being said there are things you can snack on. All protein and fat things of course - like eggs, meats and chicken wings.
Some veggies with cream cheese - can work. (I like celery)

      Re: Snacks

By snack I presume you mean something eaten between meals?

Anything that is on the acceptable food list can be eaten as a snack. And if you need ideas of what to do with the food if you want to step it up, try looking at the recipes on the ADBB, or Linda's, or google if you need to find even more recipes.

        Good snacks for induction:

        pork rinds (bbq flavor)
celery sticks with whipped cream cheese
        cheese sticks (1 oz)
cauliflower stalks with mustard (my fav)
cream cheese with a little sweetner and cocoa (weird but yummy)
single serving deli packs of sliced turkey/ham/etc
        hard boiled egg
        packet of tuna

We don't ahve these over here but apparently most of the flavoured ones have 'non-induction' ingredients, so do read labels
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Green Olives are good... if you can find the kind not packed in brine, I like those even better.

Cabbage - green or red! I pre-shred and measure into 3 or 4 oz baggies for snacking. They keep really well, too.

I speak only from experiance... if you really want to change your body you need to change your mindset too.
I never got rid of my bad habits and ended up snacking on lots of Atkins friendly foods. I lost 105 lbs and gained about 45-50 back eating Atkins foods - like nuts, cheese, cream cheese, fruits, etc..
Snack to get over the hump if you have to but you've gotta kill those demons to make it stick!!
I'm really working hard now on NOT feeding head hunger...

I wish you all the best!!
Started Atkins on December 8th, 2005

                      Re: Snacks

I agree with Liv -- it's best to cut out snacking from the beginning and to get rid of sweeteners also. Once you kill the sugar tooth you'll find that many foods taste sweet naturally.

Many times when we "think" we're hungry we're actuallly thirsty - so before you go for a snack reach for a glass of water instead. You should be drinking a minimum of 64 ounces of pure water daily so try that first -- if you're still hungry have a protein/fat item.

                      Good luck
                      Carole
