  • First timer on Atkins!

    Hey everyone, I'm new here! Reading through the posts; there is a lot of information here.

    It is Day 3 of Induction for me. My only side effects are a nasty taste in my mouth, my sweat smells different and I get lightheaded from time to time. Not bad for a total sugar and carb addict!

    You're reading Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002), right?

    Your "side effects" don't sound unusual.

        SO much water it's crazy. that is also because i practice hot power yoga several times a week.

        yes, i got the book!

        hopefully the nausea and lack of appetite will go away. today a small salad, three brussel sprouts and some chicken filled me up so much i was borderline nauseas again! i'm positive though. for the first time i don't have any cravings. it feels healthier and i think i'll feel more satisfied.

            Welcome !! Yeah, the induction flu is pretty miserable !! I am feeling it too on day two. Headache and the queasiness at times but I made sure to eat enough and I am about done with my first liter of water. I will get two in today. I have a harder time drinking when it is cold out.
            Just make sure you eat enough. Not eating enough can really make the lightheadedness worse and make you tired. I did not want to eat either and worked my way through some bacon and eggs and was okay.
            Drinking water is extremely important. I have found on low carb that if I get a lot of water in I lose weight a lot faster. Less water, slower weight loss. I have to do better than I have today but the icky stomach made water sound gross this morning. I am still not thirlled with it but working on it !! In a few days I will be fine and be able to drink all I want of the water with no problem.
            It is nice you joined us and I look forward to seeing you reach your goals !!

              The "induction flu" symptoms should pass in a couple days -- it's part of getting the toxins out of your system and getting into keotsis....both are good things.

              Make sure you're drinking a minimum 64 ounces of pure water - more is better but not less than 64 ounces. Also make sure you're eating the foods on the acceptable food list and nothing else. It sounds like you're doing great! Keep up the good work!

                It looks as if you are in ketosis already from your 'side effects' - well done!!
