  • starting fresh on 01/01/10!!

Hi everyone! I tried this WOL about 2 1/2 years ago and stopped once i got to my goal. Well since then I have kinda let myself go. I have a million excuses why, but they are just that--excuses. Any way, I am back and I am starting back up on 01/01/10. I have read the book! I have been lurking on this site! I am ready for a commitment because I am worth it! I am getting paid on 12/31 and am going to the store. I am looking for ideas of quick and easy meals that I can prepare and take the leftovers to work. Normally this would be like hamburger helper, but i realize this is a no-no. Last time I did this I tried too many recipes that were complicated, which gave me an excuse not to follow them. I have decided to keep it simple this time. I am wondering if anyone knows of a brand of frozen hamburger patties that don't taste like grease or cardboard. There are Super Wal-Mart, Aldi, and Save A Lot here and I would love the suggestions! I do really well burgers because I can make them the night before and microwave them at work.

Thanks so much! Any and all suggestions are welcome!!!

Hi Welcome back to your ADBB family

The best way to make sure your hamburgers only contain 'legal' ingredients would be to make them yourself. It doesn't take too long to make a batch of them to freeze for quick use each day.

I don't know where in the world you live, but in UK nearly all the commercial brands have some kind of wheat as 'filler' - when they say '100% beef' it only means that all the meat in it came from a cow So I make mine of ground beef, seasoning and a beaten egg. I use a hamburger press but you could just make them with your hands and squeeze them into shape.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

              Welcome back
Good luck with your new start.
I like simple too. I do hamburger patties a lot. I buy some at the grocery store that are pure been. Other times I cook loads up from hamburger and keep them int he freezer for a quick microwave thing. I also do a lot of eggs. I like to have boiled eggs. And canned tuna with mayo is an absolute friend. When I do cook something more complicated I make large portions so I can freeze part of it. Linda's white caste pie is really good for that purpose. I also do not mind left over beef. I try to find beef on sale and male large portions and use the left overs later.

Shrimp also make for good snacks. They are easy to deal with (not totally carb free but good protein)

Aldi is a great place to get inexpensive veggies -- romainne, lettuce, cauliflower, avocado, celery, cucumber, etc....all at great prices! Also, eggs, bricks of cheese and string cheese are good choices there!

Try some of Linda's recipes for great tasting meals that you can take with you or freeze for later meals. One of my favorites is the mock-a-foni & cheese http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/mockafoni_cheese.html; stuffed peppers Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes; for cold winter days try the Texas chili Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes.

Make sure you eat a variety of meals so you don't get bored with the same thing over and over!

                Good luck

                  Hi,
Like others said, just buy your own meat, portion into patties, and freeze. That way you know what's really in them.

This. We bought a plastic patty-maker at Dollar General (or was it Big Lots?) that we just go buy a bunch of ground beef on sale, make up the patties, put wax paper in between them, and freeze them in plastic freezer bags. All you gotta do is take one out, defrost, and cook - voila!

We make our patties big enough so that you could make other smaller dishes with it too...
