    Hi, I Am Starting Atkins On April 16th 2005 There Are A Few Habbits I Need To Break Like Diet Sodas, Sweets, Major Sugar Cravings I Seem To Get Light Headed On Low Fat High Carb Diets So Hopefully This Will Work, All I Know Is I Need To Do Something And Fast, I Was Reading In There That You Could Have More Than 3 Cups Of Veges BUT In The Atkins Book It Says 3 Cups Maximum I Thought...... And On Induction Can I Eat Like 3,000 Calories And Still Be Safe As Long As I Stay At 20 Carbs?

    Where did you read you can have more than 3 cups of vegetables during Induction?

    We go by the book, Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 edition here.

        actually I think they were counting you as only eating 2 cups of veggies...they might not have seen the jalepenos...you are supposed to eat 3 cups no more. You can add more in OWL.

              My Main Problem Is Exercise I Tend To Have A Hard Time Getting It In So If Anyone Can Give Me Some Ideas On How To Get It In And Some Easy Work Out Plans Id Appreciate It My Fiancee And I Have 16 Month Old Twin Boys So Its Kinda Tricky If You Know What I Mean....
              For Exercise Equipment I Have

              Treadmill
              2 ---- 10 Pound Weights
              Bicycle
              Roller Blades
              Basket Ball

              So Maybe You Can Help Me Work Out An Exercise Routine

                Hi Jetta, :wave

                The light headed feeling you have experienced is withdrawal from sugar and carbs, if you're quitting caffeine you can expect some adverse reactions as well.

                Including fatigue, headaches and overall feeling of "blah" this experiance of detoxification has been coined "Induction Flu" and it effects each one of us, at different levels of course. But it passes and it's replaced with a feeling of new bound energy and well being at every level, physically, emotionally and spiritually.

                Some people chose to start Induction over the weekend, or to take a day or two off from work if they can so they can get through it without having to worry about their jobs and performance, or lack there of. Just a suggestion if it's possible for you great, if not - that's not a problem either.

                Keep drinking your water this is key, you'll flush out the toxins and keep yourself hydrated.

                It's critical that you stop the sweets and the soda, just keep that poison out of your house and out of your grasp. Understand that all will happen should you give in to your cravings is you'll destroy any progress you've made.

                Adding extra fat in the form of butter and olive oil helps a great deal in satisfying cravings. As does Omega 3 oils (fish or flaxseed oil - re read about cravings in your copy of DANDR)

                If your craving for sweets become intolerable Dr. Atkins recommends 500 mgs of L-Glutamine to curb them, it works.

                As for your veggies it's three cups, break it out as you like i.e.: two cups salad, one cup veggies. Remember to spread them out over the day as opposed to eating them all in the evening. This prevents a spike in your blood sugar at night which can make you make you hungry.

                  If you mess up a little its OK, just dont weigh yourself during the 14 days if you can. Stick to the plan as best as you can and be creative. Try to vary what you eat each day, it will keep you from getting bored with the foods. Do drink lots of water and try to eliminate caffine, like diet cola's and coffee. I did this induction once before and by day 9 I still had bad cravings and ended up eating a bag of M&M's on the afternoon of the ninth day. Comparing to what I did then versus what I have done so far, I am certain it was the diet cola, caffine and sugar fee Jello (which I thought was Ok) that caused me to continue to have my cravings and which eventually did me in. I guess my main point here is, if you slip, just go right back on plan and focus on getting to day 14 when you should weigh yourself. I bet then you will be really happy with all that you have done. I am ready today, to visit the section of recipes posted on this site and try a few out. For me, I think its not letting me get bored with what I am eating that really helps to push forward.

                      As far as exercise goes, take it easy for the 1st 4-5 days, give your body a chance to adjust to your new eating habits. Plus,Chasing after twin boys really is plenty of work. After that you will probably start to feel much more energy. Are they still little enough to ride in a stroller? If so, take them out for a fun walk run. When my kids were little they loved it when I took them out for a brisk walk. It was a good time to bond with them as well as get a workout. Go up hills, run or skip inbetween walking it will get your heart rate up and your body moving. Fresh air also is good for peace of mind and well being. If you still think you want to do more than just that, do your exercise in 10 minutes intervals. Its certainly is easier for me to tell myself I am doing sit ups for 10 minutes versus 20 or 30, and I can certainly always find 10 minutes to spare.

                          I gave you some excellent advice - pages of it. Take what of it you like.

                          If I didnt understand your first post and made a mistake to your veggie count...so what? it's been corrected by both myself and others no on and nothing is perfect. It's three cups of veggies.
