  • 14 day induction curiosity

Hi! I was just wondering if I read this correctly in DANDR. I thought that it said something along the line that an average person can lose 10% of your body weight on the 14 day induction. Is this a "ballpark" weight loss I can use if 14 day induction if followed correctly? I currently weight 238 and I'm starting 1/3/10 and very excited!

You "could" lose 23.8 pounds on Induction.

That's almost 2 pounds a day ... and Dr. Atkins also advised that losing more than a pound a day isn't safe.

There really is no "ballpark" weight loss that one should expect ... you can lose nothing on Induction and still be successful.

There's so many factors that contribute to how much one will lose on Induction.

Hi! I have heard that about the 10% weight loss during Induction, but I am not exactly sure if it is true or not. I do wish you the best of luck with all of your goals!!

If you look at the chart in DANDR where you can find your metabolic resistance ot weightloss it will give you some idea of what to expect. However until you know how much weight you do lose in those 14 days you will not be really sure

There are many factors that might affect your losing, so stick to the rules, exercise, drink your water and enjoy the ride!!

A big part of the weight that comes off during the first few days is water. This often happens at a rate of more than a pound per day... and that's fine. However, fat loss is much slower and after the water is gone, weight loss does slow down.

In two years on low carb forums, I don't remember remember more than 2-3 people who lost close to 24 lbs in 2 weeks of Induction.

A currently-active member, English-bulldog (with 131 pounds to lose), lost 20 pounds during Induction, which is 6% of starting body weight and 15% of the total loss desired. I myself (with a mere 29 pounds to lose), lost 7 pounds during Induction (4.5% of starting weight and 24% of total desired loss). Our approaches to Induction were different, since E-b seemed to be eating fewer net carbs and put in far more exercise than I (the Veggie Hog and Chasing Toddler as Exercise aficionado) did.

I'd peg low metabolic resistance as the #1 loss factor in each case...but there are so many factors that contribute, there is really no way to predict or guarantee any sort of loss. You just have to do it and see how it goes. Drink your water, eat your veg and exercise - the weight will come off (or not come off) in a manner that is healthy and reasonable for *you*.

In the DANDR book I have it has a chart for metabolic resistance after the two weeks of induction. The book says the median weight loss for men is 10lbs, and 6lbs for women, or for a male with high metabolic resistance and needs to lose more than 50lbs he would lose about 8lbs, for average metabolic resistance he would lose about 12 lbs, and if he had low metabolic resistance he would lose about 16 lbs.

In women for the same amount of weight to lose in induction she'd have to subtract about 4lbs from the above figures.

In other words the less amount of weight you have to lose, the more likely you'll lose less than 10% of your weight if you have high metabolic resistance.

                  Re: 14 day induction curiosity

My advise....plan your meals so you're eating no more than 20 net carbs daily, drink a minimum of 64 ounces of PURE water daily (nothing added), take a vitamin, exercise and stick to the plan the way it's written.

Stay off the scale until the end of the 1st week or better yet, the end of induction. Daily weight fluctuations happen and many people freak when they don't loose "enough" or "as quickly" they they think they should.

                  good luck.
