I just started my diet 01.01.10 and I've been reading the book, just haven't quite finished it. I was wondering what do you guys think about chewing gum? Chewing gum helps my "hunger" go away. I know Dr. Atkins says in DANDR 2002, "Certain sugar alcohols such as maltitol do not affect blood sugar and are acceptable." I read blogs by other people that say it depends on if it hurts the weight you lose and that it's different with different people. And if you don't mind I would like your opinion on that. Thanks so much!

Re: Question
Erm...why are you hungry?
If you're hungry - eat! What is your typical menu? We can review it and give pointers so you don't need to resort to gum/"diet" mentality.

Never understood why anyone wants to look like a cow chewing its cud!
And as Shrew2U said, you shouldn't be hungry.
Are you perhaps dealing with an emotional hunger, rather than a physical hunger?J.

Re: Question
It's not really hunger. I just get bored and want to eat. I don't want to do that if it's not needed. You see what I'm saying?
I usually eat an omelet for breakfast, a salad for lunch, and for supper I eat boneless, skinless chicken breast with a vegetable. I have different things I eat for snacks including string cheeses, pork rinds, some kind of vegetable and a couple other things. Is this okay? Do you guys recommend anything.
Like I said, it's not really hunger. I just eat out of bordem. I should've worded my earlier message different.
Thanks for your help.

You certainly don't "need" to chew gum.
If you're bored, do something so you're not bored.
Drink some water instead of chewing gum.

That's all you eat?
What about other meats?
How many net carbs a day are you getting? How many are from vegetables?J.

Re: Question
Ah, so you're bored!
Okay, why are you bored? Would you like to come to my house and babysit? My children will give you a heart attack and you'll die - but you'll be highly entertained! My husband will throw you a magnificent funeral, too!
Seriously - why are you bored?

Re: Question
I bought different meats, but since I only started Friday I've been eating chicken. I usually get in my 3-4 oz of cheese in a day and I get my 3 cups of salad veggies in. Is also around 15-20 net carbs a day. At first I was having trouble with figuring out how much net carbs was in something, but I found a post today that showed me. (:

Re: Question
Oh yes...if you are bored and like to veg in front of the computer:
www.hulu.com; check out the episodes of "Emergency!" - the show is a hoot and Johnny Gage is a dreamboat!
www.fark.com; pony up the $5 per month for a TotalFark subscription (no auto-renewals is an option, so you can try it out and only be out $5). You will never have a real life again, but you'll never be bored. (If you sign up for a regular Fark account and tell me your username, I'll even sponsor you for a free month.)
www.newgrounds.com; awesome, free games.

Re: Question
Shrew2u, I'd be gladly to come babysit! Haha. I'm bored because I stay at home all day. I'm finished with high school and I haven't completed my enrollment to community college yet. I've been looking for a job, but there's no one hiring around here either. I bought stuff to scrapbook with so maybe that will help me not be so bored.

Re: Question
Make a scrapbook of your goals on Atkins: how you want to look, how you want to feel, what activities you want to try that you're too embarrassed or physically unable to do now and how you are going to reward yourself as you reach your mini-goals (and if you don't have any...make some!).

Re: Question
Make sure at least half of your net carbs are coming from vegetables. More than 10 net carbs from veggies won't hurt. Just stick to 20 net carbs in total.Originally posted by FindingChasity View PostI would say around 10 of my net carbs are from vegetables. Is that too little?
I use FitDay and the USDA database.do you recommend a carb counter that's found online?
