  • Help!

I am beginning the Atkins diet today. I was told that i was allowed to have fruit during phase one but realize after looking at the food list closer that isn't allowed. I just need some help as to whether the things i'm planning to eat are okay or not.. Thanks for any help in advance!

-Tuna Fish (canned & mixed with mayo)
    -Hamburger (cooked on the stove)
    -Manwhich (Hamburger with manwhich "sauce")
    -Italian Sausage (cooked on stove)
-Italian Sausage (cooked in Ragu Traditional Spaghetti sauce)
-Meat Balls (cooked in Ragu Traditional Spaghetti Sauce)
    -Hard Boiled Eggs
-Salad (Lettuce, cucumbers, cheese, hard boiled egg, ranch dressing, Bacon bits)
-Strawberries, blueberries, Apple (Peanut Butter for dipping) -- i know this isn't supposed to be eaten but will i still lose weight if i do eat theM?
    -sugar free Jello
    -Broccoli
    -Brussel Sprouts
    -String Cheese

Again, if anyone could help out telling me out of this list what i'm able to eat or not able to eat that'd be great! Any other recipe/food ideas based on what you can see i like from this list would be great!

Are you reading the book, Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002)?

    >>Tuna Fish (canned & mixed with mayo)

Yes, though with the contamination of mercury in tuna, I would severely limit how often I ate it.

    -Hamburger (cooked on the stove)

    Fine
    -Manwhich (Hamburger with manwhich "sauce")

Nope. Read the list of ingredients.

    -Italian Sausage (cooked on stove)
-Italian Sausage (cooked in Ragu Traditional Spaghetti sauce)
-Meat Balls (cooked in Ragu Traditional Spaghetti Sauce)

Depends on the list of ingredients ... the sausage most likely has sugar, the sauce might, and are the meatballs made with breadcrumbs?

    -Hard Boiled Eggs

    Fine.

-Salad (Lettuce, cucumbers, cheese, hard boiled egg, ranch dressing, Bacon bits)

Real bacon or the ones in a can/jar? If the latter, probably not your best choice. As to the dressing, depends on how much sugar is in it.

-Strawberries, blueberries, Apple (Peanut Butter for dipping) -- i know this isn't supposed to be eaten but will i still lose weight if i do eat theM?

None of these are allowed on Induction.

PLEASE educate yourself as to what's involved with doing Atkins!

      Re: Help!

      Hi, J
The problem with those of us on this board is that we only know the right way to do this way of eating, not what will happen if you add fruit or change the plan.
You can eventually have fruit, so why don't you freeze the berries and use them later and cook and freeze the apples.
Its an easy diet to use, no counting calories, just carbs, and keeping those carbs under 20 for induction. Its just two weeks long
      Welcome, we can do this

        Re: Help!

Plain tomato sauce without added sugar can usually be found - you just have to read the labels. Not sure where you live, but here I buy Hunt's Original. You can add herbs/spices to it (make sure you count the carbs, yes, even in herbs/spices!). I personally found that tomato sauce was quite high in carbs for induction, so watch your portion sizes/carb limits - although veggie carbs are "the good ones". Sausage is similar - it can be hard (but not impossible!) to find some with no sugar/grains/starches.

It is important to check the labels on anything you buy - all of the ingredients listed on the label have to be on the list of foods allowed in induction - so no sugar (under any of its many names), starches, etc. This is really time-consuming at first, but you get to know the brands/products that you can buy over time.

Check out Linda's recipe site - the recipes marked with *s are OK for induction: Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes - Recipes
