  • HELP Im new, why am I gaining weight by the minute ?

    Hi everyone Im new to this site. I did the Atkins a year or so ago with success. I have put a few pounds on recently and wanted to get it off, as Im getting older and dont want it turning into middle age spread
    Any way, Ive been on the induction for the last 7 days I have been so good, ate nothing I shouldnt, in fact Ive lived on chicken breast and fish. My problem is I have gained so much weight, I am disappointed to say the least, my clothes are getting tighter by the day. Any ideas what I am doing so very wrong ? Although I read somewhere to take epherdrine tablets and stack them with caffeine and asprin. I have been doing this, would this have caused the weight gain.

    Hope someone can help.

    how much water you drinking? post your diet up everything your eating and other will be able to give better advice

      Post your entire menu, including the amounts of the foods you are eating and what foods you are eating in the "Review My Menu" forum.

      You should be eating more than just chicken breast and fish, but I'm sure you are probably eating fats and veggies, but please post your menu.

      As for the pills you are taking, I don't know enough about them to give you any real advice. All I can tell you is that the FDA banned ephedrine because it has the ability to disrupt your heart beat.

        Thanks for the response.

        Today I have eaten 450g chicken breast throughout the day plus 3 table spoons of hellmans mayonnaise. I drink at least 2 litres of water per day, plus I have also drank 4 camomile herbal teas with zero carb sweetner.

        My diet has been about the same for the last 7 days. Except Sunday in addition to the above I also had 5 eggs and 2 ounce of cheese.

        Saturday chicken and mayo again plus 2 fresh tuna steaks with 1 tablespoon mayonnaise.

        My fluid intake is the same most days. I dont drink any caffiene or smoke.

        I track my food intake on Livestrong.

          Are you eating the veggies you are supposed to????

          What I know:
          1-Atkins WOE/WOL plan works
          2-I need to always work on the behaviors and triggers that make me over eat.
          3-Atkins WOL is part of the puzzle, but is not the entire thing.
          4-Self-deprecation only feeds our inner ego and not in a good way.

            Hi I must admit I havent eaten any veggies for the last 4 days. I didnt the last time either but still lost weight.

                I go the the gym 3 times a week. I cannot go any more as I have a twisted knee.

                  Then you didn't follow Atkins. "Atkins" without vegetables is not Atkins.

                  If you are not following the plan correctly, you cannot expect the results Dr. Atkins promised.

                  I didnt the last time either but still lost weight.
                  Did that work well for you long term?

                    I don't know what you're doing, but it certainly isn't Atkins.

                    PLEASE find out what Atkins is really about ... before you really do damage to your body.

                    It's almost impossible to do Atkins without a copy of the book, Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002).

                    PLEASE get a copy.

                      First of all, please put your stats in your siggy....HW/CW/GW, also age, height.

                      Have you read the book? Please, to make this work for you, you have to read the book and follow correctly, or else you are wasting your time.

                      Where did you read to consume that "I read somewhere to take epherdrine tablets and stack them with caffeine and asprin" cocktail???
                      Sounds like a good way to put yourself in the ER!

                      There are many ways to exercise that don't involve using your knee much or at all.

                      Water should be 1/2 your weight in ounces...200# = 100 ounces.

                        I would suggest using one of the free websites that allow you to log your foods like fitday.com to get an idea of how your numbers work out.

                        I put 450 g of chicken breast (skinless) and 3 tablespoons of mayo into my fitday account and it looks to me as if you are eating far too much protein in relation to fat and carbs.
                        The percentages worked out as 59% protein and 42% fat (the percentages often dont add up to exactly 100 as they round things up)

                        An analysis of the suggested menus on DANDR for induction by Dukes University worked out a rough ratio of 65% fat/30% protein/5% carbs, so yours are way off the mark.

                        Dr Atkins did tell us that eating too much protein would result in it being converted into glucose in our body which is not the aim of Atkins

                          No, the guys from Duke University did not analyze the menus in DANDR to get those percentages.

                          Dr. Eric C. Westman from Duke University published in 2002 a study on Atkins that was supported by a grant from the Atkins Center for Complementary Medicine. The study had 51 participants who were put on the Induction phase of Atkins and then had their carbs increased to about 50 g (after they lost 40% of the weight they needed to lose), with no limit on caloric intake. For Induction, a limit of 25 g was set on their (total) carbohydrate intake. The average caloric intake of the 41 participants who attended visits during the 6 months of the study was 1447 kcal, with macronutrient averages of 23 g carbohydrate, 115 g protein and 98 g fat. These averages translate into 31.8% protein, 61.0% fat, which leave room for 7.2% carbohydrate.

                            DANDR says something about you can do the fat fast. This consist of eating a certain amount of macadamia nuts, cream cheese, and some other food items. It is supposed to break a stall. You'll eat 4-5 small meals containing approximately 200 calories each.

                              I doubt that's a solution for the original poster.

                              Actually, the Fat Fast is dangerous if you're not metabolically resistant.

                              It should also be done only under the supervision of your doctor.

                              The Fat Fast also would not be appropriate for someone who hasn't done Induction properly, which it appears the original poster hasn't.
