    Hi Nonnie :wave

    Welcome aboard!

Atkins cannot only help you lose the weight it will improve every aspect of your physical and emotional well being.

Just looking around this Board I'm sure you've seen some stunning, jaw dropping examples of how effective Atkins can be. Many people here have lost 25...50..100..200 pounds and absolutely reinvented themselves -all you need is commitment, determination and you'll succeed.

Make sure you have the most recent copy of "Dr Atkins New Diet revolution" known around here as DANDR it's critical that you have the book.

Read it, use it as your guide and reference without the book, failure is inevitable.

Avoid any pitfalls from the get go, read the book, print out the list of acceptable foods on Induction, hit the market and stock up on all the wonderful foods that are available to you during this phase of Induction.

You'll find warm, non judgmental support here, 24/7 365 days a year by people who believe in Atkins, themselves and - you.

    Welcome!

    Peter ha

I agree with peter, the edition of the book most widely used here is the 2002 edition of DANDR. You can get it cheap on the used books in amazon.com

As far as support for induction, this site will offer support through all phases. Its not really recommended to do induction and get to your goal. It is better to get the book read up and go through the phases that way its not as hard to keep your goal once you have lost it.

If you are viewing atkins as a quick fix it won't be good, you will get disappointed when you go off and the weight will return thats where the other phases come into play.

If you are planning to change to the Way of Eating (WOE) Dr. Atkins has wrote about its a very healthy lifestyle! In which if followed correctly will give you superb health for the rest of your days.

Keep in mind that while having a goal weight and an ideal time to be done are EXCELLENT becareful not to set yourself up for disappoint. Things happen like your body stalls and then always gets moving again, don't give up stay the course and you will reach your goal in no time! Some people are more resistance than others and some products cuase stalls more than others, just stick with your goal weight for now and keep at it! You might be done before 8 weeks and you might not just read the book and never give up!

i have read dandr it is a must read in understanding this diet, i lost a lot
of weight a couple of years ago but am just not at my desired goal,
i exercise by walking 5 miles three times a week and also jog 5 miles
twice a week although i do find it harder to do this whilst i am on induction.
i struggle with sugar so i will find this very hard, i have read that sugar
free jelly is acceptable???? but will only resort to this if i am desperate.

I just wanted to say I totally agree with Will & Peter. Atkins is about changing YOUR LIFE .. its not to be used as a quick fix ... and believe me, once you see how great you feel, you'll never want to go back to eating sugar and junk foods. EVER.

Hon, the best advice for killing the sugar beast is to STARVE HIM TO DEATH. Follow a correct induction and your sugar cravings will diminish quickly. Also, you may want to take L-glutamine supplements to help with the cravings.

          No SF jelly on induction!

            Me Too!

This is my 2nd day... I felt a little funky last night, but I am thinking that might have been caffine withdrawl.
            Any advice would be appreciated

            Thanks!

It probably is caffiene/sugar/bad carbs withdrawal, and we call it Induction Flu...so hang in there! Use tylenol or ibuprofen and just tough it out because when it passes it's over and done with and you'll feel back to yourself again! :yes

                Question....

This may sound strange, but is it normal to get heartburn for the 1st day or so on Induction?
I am not prone to it, but have had it for a full day now...
Could this be my body getting used to a different lifestyle?

                Thanks!

the froggie don't live here anymore

                  howdy nonnie - welcome. ha

most people have a few odd symptoms the first couple of weeks on atkins. mine was a froggie in the throat. the sensation eased over time. you will feel different as your body transitions into ketosis.
usually these symptoms fade and cause no further discomfort.

20 lbs will be easy for you most of the weight you lose in the beginning is water weight so it is a significant amount I lost 15 in the first two weeks.

                        keep at it!

Jenni I went through this as well and it is hard for the first 3-4 days but if you get past that then it gets easier. I had headaches and cold sweats. I promise it goes away but you have to stick with it. We are all here for you so keep going. :joy
