  • any "free foods"?

i'm constantly hungry and i u p my 20 gam limit by midafternoon man days. any foods/recipes that are carb free that i don't have to measure or count? no pork, bacon or shellfish/crutacians. i'm a kosher eater.
also i now i need t eat more fat but how? i cant eat plain butter and oil, that which i put on my salads won't add up to 60% of my calories, and the carbs in nuts add up quick. there is a limit on cream so if i' hungry and need more induction fats how do i get them?
i'm 25 years old, mom of two, ready to do this once and for all!
note: i am breast-feeding, though my baby is nearly weaned, eating most solid food now. i am doing this diet with the knowledge, approval, and at the suggestion of my doctor and having done my homework. i will not discuss the matter in any of my posts. please don't bring it up.

do you eat chicken? if you eat kosher what meats are you eating? Protein and fat combinations will help keep you feeling full longer. How much water are you drinking? Many times when we "think" we're hungry we're actually dehydrated. You should be drinking a minimum 64 ounces of pure water daily -- more is better.

Have you tried coconut oil as one of your fats? It's very good and is slightly sweet and nutty tasting. How about avocados as one of your fats? You can have 1/2 an avocado daily.

There are fish selections that are kosher - I did a google search for them - KOSHER FISH.

    Good luck

Nuts aren't allowed on induction - not until Rung 3 so you shouldn't be eating any.

i can eat most meats and i love fish, but i cannot eat dairy for 6 hours after eating meat, so only like to have it in the evenings. i love fish, especially salmon but it gets expensive. are there are free veggies i can mnch on between meals? or they a; have some carb level?

No, there are no "free" veggies. Also, you should be eating veggies only with fat and/or protein, since this helps prevent blood sugar spikes from the carbs.

Can you eat eggs & cheese earlier in the day to keep you from getting hungry early? These have carbs, but also protein & can be easily cooked in fat. Egg salad with mayo for lunch? Canned tuna/salmon aren't too expensive, esp if found on sale (I don't know if you can eat these). Perhaps if you posted a menu we could help you more.

thats what i've been eating but i never feel satisfied. an hour after a cheese omlet i'm hungry again. by 2 or 3:00 pm i'm usualy done my quota of cheese, cream and salad and more than halfway through my carbs. i'm trying to figure out how to spread it out so and still feel satisfied. the evenings are the worst

Have you seen this link when you were reading the stickies? It gives you carb counts at a glance. I would say print it and have it handy.

It may be the coffee... The caffiene can fool your body into thinking that your blood sugar is high (same as eating carbs) causing your body to produce more insulin, thereby crashing your blood sugar levels and making you to feel hungry.

                        Re: any "free foods"?

Suggestion: Check that your cheesecake & whipped cream are sugar and aspertame free. I agree with the post about the coffee - skip it or switch to decaf.

Some people do better having 4, 5 or 6 small meals/day rather than 3 large ones - it may work better for you. Just remember to have protein/fat with your carbs at each meal.

Have you tried fitday.com? It will tell you how many calories, carbs (remember to subtract fibre from total carbs) and fat you are eating. It can give you a really good picture of your nutritional values. In induction, we aim for 65% calories from fat, 30% from protein and 5% from carbs, more or less. This is not in DANDR, but is from a Duke University study which examined the sample menus in DANDR. Also, you can look up how many calories/day you need to maintain your current weight - then compare that to how much you are consuming. You can eat that many calories, then burn off extra calories by exercising, which will cause you to lose weight.

If you find that you are consuming too many calories, there are some tricks you can try to determine if you are truly physically hungry:
-Drink a glass of water a few minutes before your meal.
-Eat half of your planned meal, then wait 20 minutes - if you are still hungry, eat another quarter. Wait 20 minutes, if still hungry eat some more.
-Remember to stop eating when no longer hungry, not when full or stuffed.
-Don't eat in front of the TV or computer - sit at the table and savour your food. Pay attention to your hunger signals (we tend not to when doing something else while eating).

Another thing to consider: When I have dieted in the past, I thought I was "hungry" because I felt deprived - it was psychological rather than psysical hunger. I'm not saying that this is the case for you, just something to think about.

I hope some of this helps. Best wishes,

                          Are you counting net carbs?

Can you show us the net carbs for each item in the menu you posted?

This doesn't appear to be a maintenance menu either ... which since you're breastfeeding, is what you should be eating at.

That would increase your carbs ... and you might not be hungry.

And by eating enough carbs, you won't be passing ketones through to your baby.

can you tel me more ways to add fat to the menu in place of other things? asid from cooking where can i use butter?
the cheesecake is sugar/aspartame free as is the whipped cream. i am counting net carbs. i'm avoiding sugar alchahols and trying to get enough fiber either in my food or supplementing.

Well, tweedledee, you also said you would put that you were nursing in your signature.

It's unfortunate that you're willing to risk your baby's health when you could do maintenance until you're finished breastfeeding.

Why don't you do what you said you would do ... then I'll go back to ignoring what you're doing!
