  • OK...let me have it!

Today was my first day. I've been re-reading the Atkins for Life (?) for the past couple of days and figured that I had enough of the required foods on hand to get started. I know I've made some mistakes today so ya'll let me have it....I just wanted to post because it makes me accountable!

    BREAKFAST:
3 c coffee (never gets to bottom of cup...so maybe less)
    2 T non-dairy creamer (didn't have cream) (bought half n half today...is that ok?)
    2 t. sugar ( I don't know why I used sugar...I had splenda in the pantry)

2 eggs omelet w/ mixed peppers & cheese, scrambled w/ butter
    1/3 c milk, whole

    LUNCH:
    vegetable soup
cornbread (I know...I know...it was leftover with the soup...not a good choice, just want it GONE!)..it was about the size of 1/4 pc of bread.

    DINNER
    Salad greens (iceberg and spinach)
    1 mushroom
    2 oz jack cheese
    1-2 oz deli ham
    1/4 c (less than) cucumber
    1 boiled egg
    2T ranch dressing

    SNACKS:
about 7 pieces of pork rinds
    1 c coffee (tonight) w/ 1 T half/half and 1/2 t. splenda

    WATER:
    What's that? OK...less than 10 oz (eeek!)

Like I said...I know it wasn't perfect, but I figure if I know I'm going to post my meals...it may make me think twice before grabbing one of those hershey's chocolates from my cupboard

Atkins For Life is a great book for when you have reached your weight goal and are in Maintenance. Here on ADBB we go by the 2002 ed. of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (referred to as DANDR).

Your menu is more of a Maintenance menu. Perhaps you could read more about the weight loss phases of Atkins and that will help you plan better menus. In the meantime, the stickies over in the Induction FAQ will help you get started.

    Welcome to and to Atkins!

I htink you know that the creamer was a mistake - they usually contin non-Atkins ingredients like corn syrup etc - but the 1/2&1/2 also was not 'legal' as it contains milk which is not added till the 2nd rung/level of the second phase of Atkins (ongoing weight loss/OWL)

So the milk was not 'legal' either.

Apart from those errors (and of course the cornbread and sugar ) your food choices seem 'legal'.

We can have up to 2 cups of the first veg list (salad veggies) plus 1 cup of the second veg list, or 3 cups of the first list, so you might have been within limits there depending on how large your salad was.

It is however better to spread your veg through the day to avoid any possible 'blood sugar spikes' from having all your carbs at once.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
